For mass transportation, SBS, TIB and CSS registrations do not have to pay COE. They only have to pay ERP and , possibly, Road Tax.

since 2001 or ard there, public transport buses dun have to pay ERP.. i saw the notice personally at TIBS’ Yishun Int near the toilet where the drivers also can see.. it’s a gd place to get advanced notice on TIBS’ stuff.. but drivers have to put in a cashcard with some value so tat they dun jam the system everyday with so many buses “not paying” then they have a hugh task to do.. but no value is deducted from the cashcard actually.. jus a gesture.. prob also ‘cos of LTA’s PR skills so commuters cannot complain that they save a lot on ERP..

Public buses don't pay for ERP? That means whenever the bus goes past a gantry the thing just beeps and nothing is deducted? Provided there is $ in the card and if there is a card in the first place?

yes.. they asked drivers to put in a cashcard with $ so:

1. They won't jam the system with many unpaid incidents, considering that buses go in and out the whole day (practical)
2. They don't want the public to complain about it when they decided to have fare hike (PR)

if there's zero value i'm not too sure, but drivers have been told to get themselves a personal cashcard and were assured no value would be deducted..

Not only that, it saves on administrative work.. last time they have to top up at depots everyday or once a few days i think (since they noe how many trips they make per day into CBD they can make exact top-ups using special NETS machines).. now they not only not need to do that, by making drivers use their own cards, the company don’t have to be responsible for lost company cashcards..
