All in all, journey about an hour to and back?

off_service SG

It is very hard to judge now. Unless Tibs mentioned about travelling time or until we tried it out ourselves, we don't have the answer for you. However, The whole trip would not exceed 2.5 hours IMO, since it is a WDL - M Parade - WDL service.

Båseline SG

Thanks for the info off_service.

I think it would be about half an hour or 45 mins from WRI to Jalan TPY since it goes by such a long-winded route, another half an hour to get to Marine Parade CC, and 15 mins to make the loop. Total time one way would be about 1 h 30 mins.

Tibs' press release on their website:

From Sunday, 16 November 2003, Service 966 will operate between Woodlands and Marine Parade, providing direct, cheaper and faster links to Jalan Toa Payoh, Jalan Kolam Ayer, Jalan Eunos and Marine Parade via the expressways.

You are welcomed.

Now PTC is trying to gun down services with round trips that have distances exceeding >= 30% compared to car journeys (or exceeding 50 and 60km).

Superbus SG

OK...

route is fine though circuitous.

But I'm still wondering... what is the Nissan Diesel Training Bus doing at Siglap Road/Upper East Coast Road?

Cheers and warm regards

What is the fastest way to get from Upp Bt Timah (Hazel PArk) to Marine Parade?

tranquilice SG

Service 171 to Orchard, then transfer to service 36.

Yusry SG

You guys find the route circuitous?

I find it quite direct. The other alternative is via SLE/CTE, but that's almost similar by going by BKE.

Even by car, that would be very much parallel to the route most would take. (Of course if you have a car, you'd probably be going by SLE, CTE, ECP).

oliver_yuen87 SG

I'll be writing to Tibs to try to request for 966 to turn into Bt Panjang once the Diary Farm Extension is completed.
Bke>Bt Panjang Rd>Pending Rd>Petir Rd>Diary Farm Extension>Bke >>> Towards Marine Parade
This would be similar to 36 turning into Marine Parade from ECP and running parallel to the expressway, before turning out to the ECP to Changi Airport again.

Would it be feasible?

off_service SG

Not that feasible. Like services 858 and 969, it is to provide a more direct link. Just like I previously requested both services (if possible) to serve Sembawang, but was rejected.

Superbus SG

Well, at least to me. Maybe "circuitous" isn't the best word to describe it. What I really meant is that, like what you mentioned, SLE/CTE/PIE would be faster. The route will save at least 15 minutes of travelling time on the PIE stretch between BKE's Chantek flyover and CTE's Upp Serangoon flyover. Not to mention another 10-15 minutes of travelling time on Woodlands Ave 3 (between WRI & BKE flyover).

And it's even better if the service could serve Sims Ave/ Geylang Rd. The loads will be greater, now that Hari Raya is just around the corner.

Cheers and warm regards

SBS9818A SG

Not really. After all this is meant to be a direct link to Marine Parade for Woodlands and Toa Payoh residents. Sv. 31 to Marine Parade from TPY is simply too long.

off_service SG

Good news for bus guide collectors. The service guide for service 966 is available now. Trips from Woodlands to Marine Parade are estimated between 54 to 60 minutes.

SBS9818A SG

That's fast.

tranquilice SG

Service 966 does not seem to be a loop service. It does terminate for a short while along Marine Parade Rd, and farestage reset from 37 back to 1.

SBS9818A SG

Bus drivers are supposed to park along Marine Parade Rd, but many drivers don't care and just continue driving.
