New service 119: Sengkang - Hougang Street 21 (Loop)

SBS Transit will introduce service 119 to cover part of the former 85's route, from Sengkang to Hougang Street 21 (Hougang South Interchange). It will serve the 12 schools along the route.

The service will start operation from 14 September 2003.

Good move. But with pun intended, it does look like an "emergency" or "cry for help" move. 119 is the "police" or "fire brigade" or "ambulance" telephone number in some countries.

The phone number is 112, by the way. Oddly enough Sv. 119 is likely to loop at Hougang St 21 (just outside of HG South Int), instead of terminating at Serangoon. Terminating at the latter would seem more plausible.

112 is the GSM SOS number lah.. 119 is used either in HK or Taiwan over normal phone lines. Read some comics got mention before.

If you could remember, the new SBST service 119 plys the same route as the former Tibs service 860, except in Sengkang where the latter plied one-directional along Sengkang East Way, Punggol Rd, Compassvale Dr and Compassvale Rd.

SBST service 119 plys express along Hougang St 21, Hougang Ave 1 and Tampines Rd. The reason why it don't turn into Hougang South interchange is due to it being closed soon.

It should stop along Hougang Ave 1 and Tampines Rd if possible, it can't stop along Hougang St 21 as there are no bus stops along that road, unless one is to be built outside Hougang South Interchange.

Maybe 119 can be extended to cover 321s’ route once hougang sth interchange is gone…

ZYXbus will introduce a ZYX374 to run parraell to SBS84. Service 83 is now ZYX373.

I personally feel that Sv 119 is a kinda short. As what SBS 9818 A has mentioned, it would be more plausible to let it to terminate at Serangoon Bus Interchange. Also, it helps to serve a link from Serangoon to Sengkang East Way.

For your info, there is currently no bus stops along the stretch of Hougang Ave 1 between Hougang St 21 and Tampines Rd. As for the one bus stop along Tampines Rd, I belive there's not enough demand. Also, whether the bus has enough space to keep right to make a right turn into Upp Serangoon Rd is another factor, as the bus stop is quite near the junction.

As stated in the service 119 poster, the new service is introduced for the students to convenience them going to their schools which are along the route. I don't think there's any schools along Upp Serangoon Rd between Kovan and Serangoon stations.

But of course, I would like the service to terminate at Serangoon interchange.

That's the problem. It shouldn't loop outside Hougang South Int then! Will take it on Sunday if possible.

The bus has to stop outside Kovan MRT station (for connection to NEL), and Hougang St 21 is the fastest and most direct route back to Sengkang.

If this is the way to be, service 860 would have terminate at Serangoon already.
