the number of empty seats.. i dunno how they measure.. i went to a top deck before.. only 1 person sleeping.. so got 40+ empty seats available.. but i sit nearby to the counter and sit and stand up so many times...the counter never record.. how they count? Confused

Correct. Many of the seat counters are faulty. Some will display "SEATS FULL" or "55 SEATS LEFT".

In my travels, I’ve noticed a LOT of the seat counters are faulty, but the relevant depots don’t seem to care. However, me and Hao Rui have this hobby, screwing up the already messed-up seat counters by jumping steps on going up and alighting normally.

As others have said, many of these counter are faulty.

The counter has a senser with it, it increments and decrements when one goes up and down the stairs respectively.

That’s the flaw with the system, placing the pressure pad on the stairwell is not going to work. Perhaps an infra-red detection system would do the trick, although it’s going to be costly.

odd;ly enough i dun think darr darr and hao rui wd have succeeded much in screwing up the seat counter.

i relised one thing, besides to weight sensors there is still an infra red sensor placed at 10cm above floor level. unless u are agile enough to do a leap over the infra red sensor plus the steps u succeed totally. but i ahve met cases of being able to screw the thing up by just leaping over the 2 steps

for me i also tend to skip steps just to spoil seat counters.

btw the VERY first seat counter was installed on bus 14's 9608. i beleive they still have ads in the bus regarding the "SBS innovation"

The infra-red shit is useless, it never works, it's mainly the pressure pads does the trick, so jump two steps! Wonder if there's a way to reset the thing.

In the Leyland Atlanteans in Sydney (they are Leyland PDR1A/1s and not AN68/2Rs) they have a counter which ticks over everytime someone goes up or down the stairs. They have never failed, ebcause it uses no electronic devices, just a spring which is connected up to a counter, on 2 consecutive steps.

I have managed to stuff up a counter on the VSO...go up the stairs, then leap down two stairs, then climb up again, the leap down, and go up... quite funny Mr. Green

Yes. That's what I did too. On SBS 9805L wasn't it? However I found out there's a limit, once it reaches 55 empty seats it drops there and never increases.
