How do you guys think about Express Services?

Hey folks, how do yout think about Express Services?

For me, I would really like Express Services, especially you have to rush from Point A to Point B in the shortrest time. Although you have to pay a bit more, I think it's worth to take the bus.

From my house to Orchard, I can take Express 502, which is only a 15 - 20 mins journey! That's really fast, faster than taking Service 106 with a total journey of 40 mins.

Express 511 is fast too!n From Park Mall to Ang Mo Kio Ave 3, the total time taken is only 15 mins!

What if you are a Sengkang resident? You have to endure 45 minutes of a bus just to go Orchard Rd. To me when I go bus spotting, express services are a rip-off.

Well, I do agree you in this sense. However, my opinion is that this services do help me to save some time for travelling

Darryl is right , the price is a bit of a rip off but for me 518 is great for me because its convienent for me to take that bus to orchard and go home without changing buses or taking mrts .

In my opinion, I think that services 23, 161, 168, 190, 700, 858, 960 & 989 are to convert to express services as they are indeed "express services", but I'm sure a lot of people will complain if they become express services.

I predicts that Express 501, 511 & 512 will be withdrawn in a few months when NEL starts. So if you all miss these services, take them before they become history.

I just caught 511 not very long ago , the load factor is extremely high , its interesting to see what happene to the serviece after NE line starts .

Yeah I agree with you. Services 23 is not that fast either, once I tried it and the VO went like a snail.... NOt sure 'bout the others though. 161, 168, 858 are really time- savers, along with 965 and 969, but I will object if they are converted to express services cos I have to pay so much more as I take them frequently. I don't think 960 is really that express, if you consider the route from Woodlands. If TIBS decide to convert 989 to express, then they can scrap the service cos the load factor now can be quite low at times..

Sv 989 load factor is low and thank god it’s not an express service as I need a cheap and fast way to get to the airport without taking “snail-service” Sv. 53 or the stupid MRT.

I do think that it's a waste of 989 to go Airport. You see, most commuters take the svc to travel within CCK/Bt Batok, or the most till Jln Toa Payoh. Alot of time I took 989, there will only be less than 10 people in the bus going towards Changi Airport.

But since Tibs want to keep it this way, having svc 989 to be converted to Express service will only lead to an eventual "death" of the service. The load factor is already low enough, having it as express service will make commuters take other mode of transport like SMRT or some other bus services. In the end, the driver might be the only person going to Changi Airport.

Yes, converting Sv. 989 to an express service would lead to it’s eventual demise, but I do like taking Sv. 989 as it reaches the airport faster than if I had taken the MRT, however load factor leaves a lot to be desired(common to see only 2 or 3 other people on board, even during peak hours)

Yes, I agree. It is essentially a limited stop bus service. And even if it ran on the expressways, because it is GOVERNED, it doesn't feel like an express....it still takes you a long time to get into the CBD. They should change the structure of the express services, making them limited stops from Sengkang to.......say, Hougang....then first SET DOWN stop (ie, no boarding from this stop onward) Selegie Rd, and all stops to Orchard Rd/Moulmein Rd.

I agree also. To me, any service that uses the expressways, is an "express service". 989, 969, 858, 190, 700, 168, and 30 (for it's part along the freeway). I have ridden all these services, and loved them. And because they are mostly run with O.405s, except 168 which has crappy and insipid B10Ms, and now B10TLs....

Sorry, but I think you forgot 965 and 161 too...Those Sengkang services are superb, especially 965 with its Volgren 0405s!
