i know.. but chinese songs almost all sound the same..

english songs...

sweet simple melodies like John Denver singing about his love in Perhaps Love...

slow sombre songs by Lou Reed about the darker side of life in Walk on the Wild Side..

the chirpy sounds of Katrina and the Waves (as seen on M1 ads) about Walking on Sunshine

dark, brooding and intense songs of self-doubt and self-destruction by Nine Inch Nails in Hurt (and interpreted and brought to another level by the late Johnny Cash)

the mayhem and violence in songs by Pantera in 5 Minutes Alone

songs of hope and wonder at the beauty of the times in Scott McKenzie's San Francisco

the power and charisma writing about the common man in Eddie Vedder's Pearl Jam with all their songs.. especially songs like Evenflow and Jeremy

the hedonism of The Doors' Light My Fire

the quiet simplicity of loss faced with dignity and hope in Joni Mitchell's Both Sides Now

the mind-bending sounds of a Stratocaster by Jimi Hendrix's Foxy Lady

the pain of forbidden love in Eric Clapton's Layla

the wonderful voice of Ella Fitzgerald singing Gershwin's Someone to Watch Over Me

the raw ferocity and feral power of Guns N' Roses with Nice Boys

the sheer originality of Jane's Addiction's Been Caught Stealing

and more!

so much variety, so much creativity, so different, yet so listenable Smile

chinese music seems so bland beside these.. and so 1-dimensional...

I love both English & Chinese oldies... Mr. Green

wuming78 SG

chinese oldies (right to 90s) and english contemporary.

used to listen to 933 all the way, but as i mentioned in another thread, since all the crappy taiwanese boy/gal bands started popping out, and they started playing korean and japo pop, i stopped listening to it.

I'm not chinese, but my favourite radio station is yes 933.

The thing about english songs is that sometimes incredibly dumb lyrics kills the experience, even if the song is trendy (as is the case for Power 98 etc). So when you listen to something foreign, you don't understand the lyrics... makes it more mysterious and exotic I suppose.

I Want You - Third Eye Blind

i love these lyrics:

An open invitation to the dance
Happenstance set the vibe that we are in
No apology because my urge is genuine
And the mystery of your rhythm is so feminine
Here I am and I want to take a hit
Of your scent cause it bit so deep into my soul
I want you

and

After we did it by the window sill
Smoke rings drift into the midnight sky
Presently in the quilt that your mother made
A candle burns to fight off the gloom
You said to live this way is not for the meek
And like a jazz DJ you talk me into sleep
I said there'll be no regrets when the worms come
And they will surely come

rarely do chinese songs have words so poetic in a song of the depression of an unspoken, unacknowledged but realised impending loss and the longing...

GHoST_18 SG

some how i always have the feeling...

english songs are more meaningful...
