Quit listening to mtv bands like simple plan or busted and give ur ears some real guitar stuffs...These punk rock bands only play powerchords and such...No shredding...No tapping...It's an insult to their own intelligence in making music...

You see they may play a piece or two of classical pieces, but cannot excel in both electric and classical guitar.

What kind of classical pieces are you referring to in the first place? Do you think they can play mid-difficulty classical pieces like Cavatina? I bet not.

Hope you don't find it rude Mr. Green

Dude...Satch is amazing on his classical work...Check out midnight and tears in the rain...He's great on the electric too...
U're funny...Cavatina is an easy song...I got it down during sec 1...The first song i've learnt to play..

Clapton's another dude...he's a pro in almost every guitar aspect..
Classical...Blues...Rock...
The late SRV..he's classical works is beautiful bro...And so is his electric guitar works...

I think there are a few variations for Cavatina. Maybe, Kopi should have seen the original version for the classical guitar Smile
The original version isn't an easy song, for sure.

Ok, there may be people who are good with electrc and classical guitar, but definitely not me. Smile

i dunno if this'll help, but when i started learning from my dad, all he did was to ask me to change from C to G7 (chords) day after day after day until i could do it smoothly.

then i started learning other chords. and till today, i still only know chords, the main ones... all the majors, minors, 7th, minor 7th...

i think the c to g7 exercise is to coord ur fingers, one moves one way, and two move the other way. also, it forms callouses on the tips of ur fingers so after a while it doesn't hurt when u play.

BTW, C & G7 is the most commonly used chords and so is the first chords to master.

Using the classical guitar shouldn't hurt when compared to the accoustic/electric guitar. But I think accoustic guitar sounds better as an accompanying music.

Just wondering if there is any books that your can recommend for improving or understand one's scales and chord formation.

Geez

SnowFlag SG

dun really know cos music books come n go. How about "The AB guide to music theory"?

I think there are books around that teaches you specifically on chord formation for guitar. Try Yahama Music at Plaza Singapura.

Or maybe you can google. Smile

Have you found anything?

The Key to being a good guitarist: Knowledge and practice.

The key to being a damn good guitarist: Creativity.

I almost killed my guitarist in my band becos he has got to be one of the technically skilled and talented guitarist i met but YET he only likes to use OVERDRIVE and his lead and solos are always 'bluesy'. He knows how to play others but he just dun wanna try.

So, please be creative. Steve Vai and such can only be a starting point. Who wants to be like Steve Vai? You should aim to be better.
