Cathay Cinema is now cordoned off to the public and is halfway
in the process of being demolished to make way for a redeveloped
version of the old cinema.
Efforts to petition is preservence has been futile.
The building has a long history dating all the way back before the
war, all the way to the early 1930's or so.
Cathay Building, Cathay Hotel and Cathay Cinema are all part of one
whole big estate. Cathay Building, (located behind Plaza Singapura)
was the tallest building and most luxurious to be built in S.E.
Asia during the time. Standing at 17 storeys at the side of a hill
and fully airconditioned, it was once a hotel and then turned into
an office before being turned into an apartment for
expatriates.
The Urban Infiltrators (ie. my clan of explorers far more superior
than any other hehehehe j/k) has explored the area. Cathay Cinema,
or half of it rather, is still standing, the other half has been
hacked off. The whole area behind the cinema is in ruins and it is
almost impossible to infiltrate the area because of tight
security.
U.I. has managed to capture images of Cathay Building, explored the
building and also encountered a couple of, should I say,
interesting though frightening experiences there that shall not be
revealed due to our tight security on our infomation and
whereabouts and activities.
There is something about the building that is not right.
There has been several sightings as well.
Efforts to access the rooftop is not yet successful but we will
try.
More infomation about the U.I. will be posted up this forum in due
time.
I enjoy your company and I am grateful for the existence of the
Urban Explorers (Singapore) and this forum.
