"A FORMER Royal Marine is planning to climb Snowdon - with a fridge
strapped to his back. Paul McKelvey will scale Wales' highest peak
as the challenging climax of a bizarre sponsored walk.
He set out from Liverpool on Wednesday to walk the 120 miles to
Snowdon, a tough enough task without the extra burden of the
40-kilo fridge.
Paul, 35, was asked to take on the marathon challenge in aid of
Zoe's Place, a children's hospice in West Derby, Liverpool. He
hopes to raise £5,000.
In the past, he has carried a fridge to London in aid of the Weston
Spirit.
His current walk has taken him through Flintshire and Denbighshire
to the A5, and last night he was stopping traffic as he headed
along the road towards Capel Curig.
For the final trek up Snowdon tomorrow morning, he will be joined
by relatives and friends, and representatives of the charity.
His brother-in-law Paul Preston is driving a support car and
collecting donations.
"The support along the way has been great, with lots of people
asking what is going on," he said."
