Tarot decks

How many of you here own a Tarot deck at home? Thinking of collecting them since some of them consists of really beautiful artwork..

Anyway I bought my first and only Tarot deck which is the "Rider-Waite" Tarot deck. I believe its the very first and contains the highest esoteric value right? Laughing

Well the Rider Waite is one of the Three Famous Tarots other than Marseille & Thoth. A fairly White Deck of high Esoteric values. However if your deck is same as in the picture you posted its "Radiant Rider Waite" an Re-illustrated Version of the "Original Rider Waite". Another version will be "Universal Waite".

My "Original Rider Waite" Deck has been with me for more than a decade.

Tarot cards are all unique as different decks have different characteristics but do be careful as Tarot Decks themselves are "alive" and if you cannot control them,than it will bring about such discomfort.The best solution is to find someone who knows the Tarot Cards well to give you some advice.

Anyway i bought it cause it caught my eye thats all, was hoping to keep it as a momento or something, never really thought of going into readings and all...

I used to have a tarot deck for a brief momment years ago. I gave it away to my brother but due to my family conservative nature, it was locked up. I just remember faintly that my tarrot deck is coated with a light blue colour. Are tarot decks special? What do you mean tarot decks are alive? Will any tarot decks do? even the tarot decks that they give out free with mystic books.

Well All Tarots are alive in their own ways Spiritually at different levels & with different kinds of energy. Every Individual deck is special. Well its not advisable to take free Tarot or buy Tarot Decks from unknown source as these tarots may be tampered with intent which may bring about some complications to New Owners. Not all tarot are suitable for everyone depending whether you are able to control it as its master. If not it will not help you in any ways but will definitely affect your life.

As for your old Tarot deck its kept aside not been use at all for long time thats what i feel. The connection with you is still there more or less.

The tarrot deck I got was from the bookshop. It came with a book on tarrot and mystic. How will I know a tarrot deck is genuine? There are gypsie looking people at my local town market..is it advisable to buy from them?

believe me oceanos it was... it came with one of those learn how to read the tarot kind of thing.. din even have a type attached to it, so i dun suppose it falls under any of these categories.. Sad

Couldn't agree more...
One of me personal fav is the Dali deck by artist Salvador Dali (supposedly) made for his wife.... Embarassed Just for my eye-candy purposes...

Started with Rider-waite too Mr. Green Good deck for beginners and most trusted to the very end. Wink

Well, the Rider-waite deck comes very highly recommended for beginners because of the pictures Wink Razz
The deck is filled with symbolisms that are easy to inteprete and understand. Which does help one to remember what is on the card. However, upon futher inspection, one can find and it had often been repeated that every thing present in the card actually have a deeper meaning. The hand positions, the colors, the facial expressions, etc. are now not as superficial as it may have seemed. Also, most importantly- to me at least, the minor arcana is fully illustrated, unlike the Thoth or Marseilles deck.

Most of the tarot books available in the market makes use of the symbols in the Rider-waite deck. Let's not talk about the guide books for specific tarots, but in general. Usually one could find books using pictures of either a few decks-which would include the Rider-waite deck, or plainly of that deck only.

Faced with the variety of choices present on the market these days, it's hard to make yourself buy the Rider-waite deck as it is somewhat more... dull and... well, I don't know... not that appealing? However, it is worthwhile to note that most of the decks out there have taken their symbolism, and/or inspiration from the Rider deck. Which means that some of the symbols have been tempered/changed and the meaning will be different from what it is supposed to mean in the first place.

However, I strongly believe that one should get the deck that speaks to them. As that deck would usually prove to be more personal, and much more valuable than just any other deck would. Although if you are like me and simply can't decide (and also being too broke to buy all that speaks to you... or too impatient to wait any longer), the Rider-waite's the best way to go... for now. Either that or you want to have a deck of tarot on hand whilst you delve into western esoteric studies... Rider-waite, Thoth or Marseilles is the one you'll be wanting...
