I think its very irresponsible to die for your religion if you have kids and wife and old parents waiting for you at home.

If a terrorist asks you to deny your god, you should think of your family first. If denying your god can save your life, then deny your god and go back to your loved ones safely.

I am sure if your god loves your family, he/she will understand.

I think if you are talking about dying to save other human beings yes. But if you are dying for just a belief, where there is no one "tangible" to save, then it's better to go back to your tangible family members safely.

What is wrong with dying from a belief ? What is so wrong when Che Guevera died for his belief ? Or Ghandi ? Or Martin Luther King ? Any many others who died for thier belief ? What are u trying to say ? U think none of them have families ?

I think Tcmc is not so much looking at in prematurely as looking at the whole religion thing as irrational and delusional. An atheist sees religion as ultimately a form of delusion since there is no reality behind it. To the atheist any divine being or deity in a religion is just an imaginary being invented by man to cope with the unknown, the mysterious, and other fears. So why die for a false belief?

Christians should start living for God instead of thinking whether they are going to die for God.

the religions all want you to LIVE for the religion.. LIVE in such a way so that people will see the wisdom of their holy books.. LIVE in such a way so that people will want to come to know about and be as good as you and therefore LIVE the teachings of the religion...

dying is easy.. and stupid...

living.. that's the hard part and that takes more wisdom than anything else concerned with "dying for this, dying for that..."

Ghandi.. if u ever did read his bibiography, is a man of faith. He practices Hinduisim, and from his religion he believed in compassion, non-violence and the Golden Rule of treat others how u want them to treat you.

However, Ghandi did once say he is Christian, Hindu and Muslim all in once.

But you can see where he got his belief and conviction from. He didnt just wake up one day and decided to throw away his legal career and becoming a proponent of civil disobedience.

If they think they are setting an example for others, I'm sure some people would be willing. They think their children should be proud.

They may also think their god expects it and will punish them for not doing it.

Given there are many people in Singapore who are robots, I'm sure I have met some before.

Look back to the colonial days when missionaries spread throughout Asia. The sacrifices they made and many died brutally while believing what they were doing is right

Today, we reap what they have sowed. Schools. Health care. Policies....culture ...etc . Who am I to say that their death or sacrifice was wrong ? stupid ? or something not being proud off?

Yes they died, but thier memory remains far more alive than those that lived.

I would. Two criteria: 1) Confirmed true calling from God. 2) Understanding from my family. I would be struggling if family don't understand my belief... Like going to war for example...

Of course it is always good to consider family first, not your own beliefs. Actually you are being very selfish if you consider your own beliefs first before your family members. Your family members need you, and you cannot just keep thinking about dying for your own beliefs.

I am just saying dying for a belief is bad. I never said the whole religion is bad. Please get it right.

I am also against hindus dying for their religious beliefs, buddhists burning themselves for buddhism, muslims dying for islam and christians dying for christianity. Just relax...dont need to die. Love ur family first.
