Oh yeah, I do see people (Christians) do cherry picking nowadays
(Prosperity Gospel, Healing and etc...)
It is stated that "All Scripture is God-breathed and is useful
for teaching, rebuking, correcting and training in righteousness,
so that the man of God may be thoroughly equipped for every good
work." (2 Tim 3:16-17)
If all scripture is God-breathed, then the question is how
many percent of the scripture should a Christian follow? Is 99%
enough?
As for the social responsibility, I think the religious
organisations are doing their best to help out the poor already...
You just need to look hard...
They have, TOUCH (FCBC), HOPE Worldwide Singapore (CCC),
BCARE (LSBC), well, just to name a few... =D
Anyway, I'll really be interested to chat more with you...
=)
The Bible also said Adam was first, then Eve was built from his
ribs.
But Science has discovered all males were females first, then
somehow our ovaries went down south to form testicles. Evolutionary
speaking it makes sense, since all life had to start off as asexual
in order to reproduce.
We must understand that the Bible was written by hands
attempting to understand the world around them, and since their
information is limited their conclusion had to be at best
inaccurate but it was neccessary to establish proper rules of
conduct and behaviour in order for their society to survive and
prosper.
Saying Adam was first is an example of the chauvinist society
that the Bible was created in and already evident of
the biaseness in deciding what God expects of people.
How much more of it is distorted by the hands of
Man?
"Do no harm upon others" is pretty straightforward in its
interpretation. How many have really adhere to this?
Just the same as there are both secular and other religious
charity organisations. But for a religion preaching so much about
God's love, that love seems to be pretty stingy and comes with
conditions.
