I think I might know why he thought of it as white.
It could be white but due to ambient light and the ISO setting of
the camera, it turns out red. But from the lit up area at the front
bumper, it becomes obvious that the car is indeed red and not due
to ambient light.
Just different ways of interpreting the picture
