Icey, need some help. was asked this today (quoted in verbatim):

"I always wanted to know, if in Judiasm, they don't believe Christ was the Messiah, wouldn't they still be practising animal sacrifice today? Do they?" Can anyone enlighten me?

any insights to this?

NT2 SG

they cannot offer sacrifices now because there is no Temple…same goes to the issue on Tithing for the Jews.

ben1xy SG

ohh, then what about the synagogues that Jews attend? (sorry, i'm not familiar with Jewish practises)

NT2 SG

synagogues ate place of assembly for the jewish people. Its like a CC to them. no doubt they have worship there but the model of the Temple is not there.

The Temple can only be built in Jerusalem and currently the site occupied by something else.

Wink

got a good website to recomend? sounds pretty interesting. i would like to read up more on this

ben1xy SG

thks!

Icemoon SG

NT2 is right.

I endorse his answer. Mr. Green

But some Christian idiots like to make the argument if not for Christ, you will still be sacrificing today. Crazy. Rolling Eyes

Ben,

Like what was being said, animal scarifices can only be performed at the Temple (Jerusalem), hence is currently not "legal" to perform.

you can ask this in DT, think Brey should be able to help you in this.

or you can also refer to this website

Q. Why did Jews stop making animal sacrifices?

ben1xy SG

no no, it wasn't a criticism. he was asking more out of curiousity Mr. Green

ben1xy SG

thks everyone! i think the picture is much clearer now!

Icemoon SG

yah .. so Christ has made the ultimate sacrifice for all mankind.

There is no need to believe in Him to receive the salvation. Logical right? Sacrifice during the Temple period was an obligation between the Priest and God, common folks were not involved.

ben1xy SG

So u're arguing for salvation outside Christ? is that what u're getting at?

Icemoon SG

Oh .. you are not very correct for the tithing.

The Jews do tithe. They have to because during the diaspora they live in a community and have to look out for one another. Now in Israel maybe they have social welfare or something, I'm not sure.

The Jewish idea of tithing is actually very noble. Read the url for more information.

Icemoon SG

Huh .. but Christ has already paid the price for us. The PAP can exempt your tax even if you support the opposition and living in opposition ward. (in the scenario that they exempt the tax in their own wards)

Unless Christianity is like the PAP .. ahem.

NT2 SG

thanks for ur endorsement Mr. Green

Icemoon SG

I don't take sides.

If Christians are right .. I give my endorsement.

NT2 SG

so u r the christian theological endorsement board?

Icemoon SG

Don't think so.

I might just give a vote to Muslims and Jews .. if they are right. Mr. Green

NT2 SG

in view of this topic, this verse is a good reminder to us who belong to God

For you will not delight in sacrifice, or I would give it;
you will not be pleased with a burnt offering.
The sacrifices of God are a broken spirit;
a broken and contrite heart, O God, you will not despise.

-Psalm 51: 16, 17 (ESV)
