No, my friend not from CHC... but it reflects the minor community....
It's the same for other religions, so long one keep talking about it to no matter whom they meet or see, people get turned off, annoyned, unless they are of the same faith.

They should reflect on their method of preaching....

That's ok. I rather be on the side of thinkers and philosophers like St. Thomas Aquinas, C. S. Lewis, G. K Chesterton, J. R. R. Tolkien, John Henry Newman, Jacques Maritain, Robert P. George, Thomas Howard, Peter Kreeft, and Pope Benedict XVI and be called ignorant.

I shudder at the enlightenment that people of your ilk can offer.

do not forget many of the Enlightenment thinkers are not supportive of Christianity. furthermore great thinkers like Newton and Spinoza are not very Christian in their thoughts.

Newton believed in arianism (heresy condemned by the Catholic Church). Spinoza (and even Einstein) were deists.

I think he was exocommunicated by either his Jewish mates or the Christians.

We can forget all his philosophy .. but we shouldn't forget his beliefs prompted someone very famous to claim "I believe in Spinoza's God". Wink

From experience, it tends to be those new age 'charismatic' christian groups who are most zealous in trying to convert people to their faith. Many a times, their intentions are good but the way they do it turns people off. And they have a tendency to play up and segregate 'believers' from 'non-believers' - how 'believers' could be sure of going to heaven and get (material) blessings from God while on earth etc.

Fortunately, not all christian denominations are like that. Where I come from, even the term 'non-believer' is seldom used, I would normally hear the term non-Christian instead.

u're right. in this forum alone, there's already many who keep telling ppls that once u believe in god, heaven is a guarantee, regardless of the sins they committed. and for the non-believers, no matter how many good deeds they did, the "refuse to believe" in god is the biggest sin that will land them in hell. how much sense does it make? if there's really god, i think he'll think otherwise. or else, he's really not a good god. or maybe it's just another brain-washing method employed by some christians

In short, christianity can be defined as a religion of hypocrites.
Does anyone still remember this famous hymn "Amazing Grace"?
Does anyone know who is the composer of the lyrics for that hymn?
He was a infamous slaver captain who had claimed many lives of the slaves he ferried across the ocean. On his dying bed, he wrote the lyrics in repentance. Isn't that being a hypocrite?

John Newton wrote the hymn "Amazing Grace" while he was still involved in the slave trade.

Let's look at this philosophically - which one of us is not a hypocrite, one time or another. If being a hypocrite is not practicing what we preach, then we are all guilty of it.

However in the example above, a hypocrite is NOT a person who has done bad but now attempt to do go. That is REPENTANCE.

An act or instance of such falseness.

There is one bit about the starter's post I can relate to tho... its when I went to this church last time, you see the 'sisters' in really skimpy clothing...

My question is : isnt that considering 'stumbling' to the brothers if they dress up liddat? It's not like they're going clubbing or something.

Dunno la, I'm sure there're plenty of excuses and reasons ppl here can come up with to defend this, so let's hear it?

skimpy clothing can reduce backsliders you know? Laughing

I know one can backslide for a variety of reasons .. but I'm quite sure most people if never go church for a long time will confirm backslide.
