On the essntials of the faith: they agree.
On non-essential distinctives:
1) Calvinistic [five points]
2) Puritanic
3) Some are Baptistic while others are Presbyterian
4) Covenant theology
5) Cessationist [they believe that tougues and other prophetic
gifts as ended when the cannon was completed]
6) Church government: to those who are Baptistic, they are
Congregationalist. others are presbyterian. i have not yet heard of
Reformed churches as episcopalian in thier church government.
Evangelical Churches
on essentials: the same as the Reformed
on non-essentials:
1) Some are Calvinist, some are 4, 3, 2, 1 point Calvinist. others
are Arminian
2) Some are Puritanic others are not.
3) Some are Baptistic others are Presbyterian
4) Some are covenant advocates, others are dispensationalist
5) Cessationist with regards to tougues and prophetic gifts.
6) church government: some are episcopalian, others presbyterian,
others congregationalist.
But they all believe in:
1) salvation by faith alone
2) bible alone
3) Trinity [included here of course is the belief in the deity of
Christ]
there are so many other non-essential distinctives. But remember if
they adhere to these essentials they are under one Head
Christ:
Mr 9:38 Now John answered Him, saying, "Teacher, we saw someone who
does not follow us casting out demons in Your name, and we
forbade him because he does not follow us."
39 But Jesus said, "Do not forbid him, for no one who works a
miracle in My name can soon afterward speak evil of Me.
40 "For he who is not against us is on our
side.
In heaven we will have one theology
Some may go far astray from Biblical theology for awhile in the
non-essentials but thank God for other brethren in other churches
who have been illuminated by the Holy Spirit who came to know right
theology, we are corrected. Here we are in the process of uniting
our theology, our knowledge of Christ and God. There in heaven we
will have unity of THE faith:
Eph 4:11 And He Himself gave some to be apostles, some prophets,
some evangelists, and some pastors and teachers,
12 for the equipping of the saints for the work of ministry, for
the edifying of the body of Christ,
13 till we all come to the unity of the faith
and of the knowledge of the Son of God, to a perfect man, to
the measure of the stature of the fullness of Christ;
Notice in verse 13 it says: THE faith. This refers not to the faith
that we placed on Christ for salvation. This refers to the truths
about God and and His ways, Christ and His works. In short, this
refers to theology.
