Chin Eng SG I have started this thread as a followup from the thread of our former mod. The purpose is to DRAW the discussion away from this individual and focus on an important aspect of Eternal Hope - the role of the moderator. The following quotations from skeujin and sillyme is from the other thread. Well put, skeujin.... this is what I have been saying all along... I think it is important to define what is the role of the moderator. Is the moderator responsible for the defense of the faith? Is the moderator responsible to answer all queries? Is the moderator responsible to engage in proselytization of his pet topics or favourite denominations? Therefore the first question here is: is the moderator a Christian in defense of the Christian faith, or a person who administers a domain (a domain that nonetheless skewed towards one lifestyle). So what hat does he wear? Who defines this role: The main mod? The Christians in EH? The visitors in EH? Perhaps this is a good time for all to voice out as to what they want EH to be, taking into consideration that the original aim were: Eternal Hope. A place where we look for hope or provide hope. Indeed, my hope is in Christ, Son of God and Giver of Life. I hope that through this forum, we can share how wonderful God has been in our lives. Also, it would be a place where we can encourage each other and a place to pray for each other Peacefully yours, CE.
laoda99 SG I think it is important to define what is the role of the moderator. 1. Is the moderator responsible for the defense of the faith? Yes 2. Is the moderator responsible to answer all queries? Yes 3. Is the moderator responsible to engage in proselytization of his pet topics or favourite denominations? No Therefore the first question here is: is the moderator a Christian in defense of the Christian faith, or a person who administers a domain (a domain that nonetheless skewed towards one lifestyle). So what hat does he wear? The first hat. Who defines this role: The main mod? Yup. yup The Christians in EH? only when the mod on leave The visitors in EH? christians also count as visitors?
vince69 SG Just to add. The role of the Moderator here is to administrator/moderate this forum. Administor : keeping the place 'clean'.... etc type of admin stuff. Moderate : peace keeping (mediate between 'waring fractions', policing (for errant folks). Being able to moderate the forum, lock, edit, delete threads/post is alot of power, in excerising justice to correct an errant forum user, remember mercy and compassion and not wack for fun, but rather think twice before the wacking. God bless
NT2 SG whoever the mod is…the fault lies in the mentality and attitude of the people who post malicious posts
sillyme SG What has been brought up is fair. Firstly, a moderator in EH must be a Christian. As a Christian, one who loves God, will be moved to defend his faith. He defends it because of his beliefs, not because he is obligated as a moderator. The moderator's role is well-stated by vince. I think many would be able to agree with it. There's not much other roles a moderator can do as I see it.
laurence82 SG I dont know, somehow I also dont think the mods should be some sort of QC supervisors, should be more like a guide Instead of merely closing topics for examples, there are options, but I must stress is situational, for example, guiding members towards topic proper, add a new perspective, perhaps even engage members by asking questions, what are their opinions on this and that etc etc Its beyond authority, judgement call, administrative role, which are always the issues regarding mods' role. Its akin to what the Aunt Agony moderators sometimes do. They dont offer solutions immediately, but rather, engage the forumers.
Ito_^ SG actually, most importantly a mod must enjoy his responsibilities. not view it like a non-paying job that is hard and unappreciated.
vince69 SG true, case by case basis for closure consideration.... example : duplicated topics (maybe just slightly different title but of the same thing inside), closure requested by thread starter....etc
s|nNeD SG well, i hope i can be a good moderator for this forum and i can't do it alone.. i will need all of your help in keeping this place free from the undesirables.
sillyme SG hard to define. Maybe we can look into the mirror... and decide if we are desirable or not
