Simple example will be like, let say a simple act:
a fundamentalists normally will interprete of bible and apply it to everyday matters...strong view in non-evangelical.
a charismarics stress intimate workings of holy spirit and faith healing, speaking in tongues...reach out to others

Yet they are serving the same purpose/principle...knowledge to understand more about God and serve Him better.

ok, the role of the Holy Spirit (probable need a new thread on its own) in short is to bring to rememberance what is already being taught in the Bible, to guide a believer in their daily living along the principles of the scriptures.
Not about new revelations.

God, the Holy Spirit brings a person to deep understanding of scriptures.
That's when our finite mind truly enlightens. Matters which are grey could come clear, not JUST by reading and understanding. But also by deep communion with the Holy Spirit.

I read somewhere, that the Nag Hamadi scrolls, and the dead sea scrolls, discovered in the 1940s/50s are not actually aligned to the Christian faith, but more of esoteric in nature e.g. the Essenes.

Can we use these to understand the Christian faith better?

The Nag Hamadi scrolls are gnostic in nature. The Dead Sea Scrolls contain a mix, essenes and most of the OT.
