The difficult laws

In Leviticus, there are many strange laws.

Laws about slavery...buying of slaves, killing, no mating of 2 diff animals, uncleanliness etc.

How does one reconcile this with the present day, where slavery is no longer tolerated, neither do we believe in uncleanliness or eat certain food? Given that the laws were given by God??

ok...but what is the purpose of all these laws? From what I gather, it is to make Israel a holy nation set apart for the Lord. Is it correct?

And also, does the 10 moral commandments also go away as well as these civil laws? I don't think so...what is the explanation?

its not about who's more pious. Just because Jews doesn't do it doesn't mean I shouldn't....if I am supposed to in the first place. I'm asking....am I supposed to? Laughing

Somehow I get the idea that we are trying to revive the Jew-Gentile issues of the early church...

Might we sought to see how they were resolved? Or were they ever? Why is it that we do not follow the food laws nowadays, but yet refrain from consuming blood?

We all need some study here, and I not commited to the idea the 'old' law has nothing for us as Christians though... you can never ustart nderstand the depth of grace if you don't understand what exactly it completes.

I mean what about those things like circumcision, not eating blood, cannot mate 2 diff animals, cannot touch unclean person, cannot eat certain food etc.

Why are these no longer in place, yet the 10 commandments are?
Even in NT, some things are different too. Females now don't have to cover their heads like those in Ephesus, neither do they have to remain silent.

Are you bound by the covenant with God? If not, then you're not obliged to follow those commandments. Technically speaking, you're not even bound by the 10 commandments.

A lot have to do with changing times and the context in which the passages were written.

in regards to the ten commandments, they are the laws which if followed and understood will guide our relationship between us and our fellow humans and more importantly, it will give us direction in our relationship with God. The commandments tell us about God's character, and they tell us what God considers righteous and where God would want us to draw our boundaries.
