Prayer

but praying in tongues is voluntary. You can choose to pray in tongues and you can choose to stop. So what is this about being overcome? I want to pray in tongues, I can. If I want to stop I can too. Wink

The Holy Spirit is a gentleman.

speaking in tongue had always been voluntary, in fact all manners in regards to the gifts of the Spirit (including tongues) are voluntary. for the simple reason, one of the fruit of the Holy Spirit is self-control.

yes, I have also witness some people that seems to be out of control, and ended up 'hijacking' the church service and the pastor have to step in to 'interrupt' him/her, of course there are people that say the 'Holy Spirit' take over the contol of them (like processed like that), I also am not in a position to comment on their behaviour.
Personally I feel that this is not the right thing to do, cause the gifts of the Spirit should also be accomplied by the fruits of the Spirit.

Ask and it shall be given, seek and you shall find, knock and it will be open unto u!

I asked for strength that I might achieve;
He made me weak that I might obey.
I asked for health that I might do greater things;
I was given grace that I might do better things.
I asked for riches that I might be happy;
I was given poverty that I might be wise.
I asked for power that I might have the praise of men;
I was given weakness that I might feel the need of God.
I asked for all things that I might enjoy life;
I was given life that I might enjoy all things.
I received nothing that I asked for, all that I hoped for.
My prayer was answered.

Oh really?

Laughing

How about I use steam roller and crush you and call it a massage?

How about the peeping tom who merely said he is observing?

Anyway, most people forgot what are some of the preconditions for prayers - sincerity, conviction and faith.

I hope that when Christians pray, besides asking for divine intervention in everyday matters, would also ask God to let them know what sinful acts they has done and what they could do to rectify it.

I believe we should also use discernment when it comes to excersing the Gifts of the Holy Spirit for eg. speaking in tongues.

My point is use it when it is deem appropriate.

Can u imagine wat the surrounding people in a MRT will tink if u start blabbering in a foreign gibberish language? We should not go to the extremes but strike a balance. Mr. Green

I confess to Almighty God, and to you my brothers and sisters,
that I have sinned through my own fault;
in my thoughts, in my words,
in what I have done and what I have failed to do.
And I ask Blessed Mary ever virgin, all the angels and saints,
and you my brothers and sisters,
to pray for me to the Lord our God.

Priest: May almighty God forgive us our sins, and bring us to life everlasting.
People: Amen.

To me prayer means spending time, talking to the person I love the most. Sometimes, I use formulated prayers, other times I just make up the words but most of the time I offer up all my feelings and thoughts.
