Bring back the tipping system!!!

Ever tried asking for a glass of water, a serviette or even a spoon in a crowded restaurant. They take forever to come to you. I think that the service in restaurants have suffered greatly ever since the service tax was imposed. It should be abolished, and let the waiters and waitresses work on tips instead. This way there is more motivation for them to provide better service.

i thought serving customers are part of their job..if i have to tip them so that i get better service..den i rather self-service...

anyway i believe in tipping after a meal....if i get goot service satisfaction..and not tipping to get goot service..make no sense to me

No, the tipping system works like this. One waiter or waitress will be assign to your table, which means waiters will have a few tables under their care. They come round once in a while to see to your needs, then you just tip that one waiter in the end according to how well you think he or she served you instead of paying a flat 10% service tax, so if you feel that you haven't been served well, you can just choose to leave a small tip

err.......you people dunno how tipping works??errr........currently no need to tip cuz got service charge liao.....so in the end the waitress gets the $$ no matter the service....
In tipping if you think good service you tip more loh......if you not happy you can show ur displeasure by not tipping or leaving a simple 5cents Mr. Green
edit:Oh and if this happens they get rid of the 10% service charge Cool

I worked as waiter b4, frankly speaking, service charge are juz part of our salary and we deserve it.

It will be good if customers can give us tips also for good servicing. Mr. Green

Err... isn't the idea of paying service charge to replace direct tipping??? I don't mean to say you are a bad waiter, but you have to admit there are some really crappy ones around. Surely if you did a better job than they did, don't you think you deserve to be paid more than they???

Though tipping is not practiced here in Singapore, I occasionally tip in cafes and restaurants. I also experiment with different ways to tip.
Heres what I noticed:

Everytime I want good service or I ensure that good service, I dont tip at the end..... instead, I tip the moment I enter the cafe and sit down, to the first waiter/waitress. saying:" Here's 2 bucks, would you take care of me and my friend?" Watch what happens.....!! You will never have to worry about water again as they will constantly be watching and taking good care of you!!

Another incident was when I was at an amatuer cafe in bukit timah, the only waitress( a student I guess) looked sooooo.... happy!! everytime she served, she would give that big large smile on her face. Not the usual anticipated smile you get outside. 2 dollars is nothing to me but I guessed it my stay several times better.

During my waiter's day, although some guests tipped $2 for me and 2 bucks is nothin much to me. But I would be happy for it as it bring some satisfaction for my job for providing better service to my guests.

Up to this day whenever I went to restaurant to eat, I am also ensure a good service by rewarding tips for the waiters.

I think that it is sucky that from next year onwards, we will have to pay 15% of tax ie 10% Service charge and 5% GST just to eat at a restaurant! This sucks. The food prices are already so expensive.

i assume if there's tipping, there won't be 10% service charge. and typical singaporeans will just feel like they've saved themselves 10%. tip? no way. service in sg sux, and customers are probably worse.

culture is something that's hard, even impossible to change. not that it's right or wrong.

Laughing definitely agree. if its up to singaporeans to tip, singaporeans being singaporeans (and so ngeow at that) the waiters and waitresses prob will never get tipped. Mr. Green

i always leave my hair stylist a small tip (20%) when i’m satisfied with my haircut.
