Icemoon, I detect the start of a flame (from you)
If you studied the history of the Jews, God chose Abraham as the
Father of His chosen nation in the book of Genesis. So that
explains the "special preference over the other races". I'm not a
religious theologian, so please do not try to ask misleading
questions.
As for what happened to the other non-Jews, this question you have
to ask a religious theologian. As to why the mention of salvation
was only available must be seen in the context of the reserrection
through the Apostle Paul's epistles. Because the Jews rejected
Christ, salvation that was specially reserved for them is now
freely available to all races.
You can read this verse to better understand :
Romans 1:16 (from King James Bible)
"For I am not ashamed of the gospel of Christ: for it is the power
of God unto salvation to every one that believeth, to the Jew
first, and also to the Greek."
I'm just explaining this from a Christian point of view. So if you
choose to explain from a non Christian point of view, please feel
free to do so.
