Well, I believe in the absolute authority of the bible not
because I am a christian. I was not but 10 years ago I did because
i came to believe that it is true. However, not everyone believes
it. Are they wrong? I cant say that. i dun force to people to
believe in it. The bible presents itself. There is no issue of
whether what the bible says is unfair or not unless you believe
those words were actually spoken. If you not believe or thinks it
is just a myth, you wouldnt bother whether it is fair or not
because it does not affect you anyway.
Cool down cool down... wat I am trying to say is since the bible
claims tat events had happened in the past, we can check its
reliability by looking for these evidence. I know people believe
just because of "faith". Now I am trying to ask u guys not to just
use faith, use your logic and reasoning. Surely God gives u logic
and reasoning, one of the most prized "gifts" received to make full
use of it.
Truth can be subjective. People always told me that MARS have no
intelligent beings because of the explorations and photos taken.
Another group believe otherwise though all the evidences they have
do not show any physical proof of intelligent beings. All they have
are deductions. But wait, does that mean the first group of people
are absolutely right? Maybe yes but maybe not. Each group believes
in their own TRUTHS but surely there is THE TRUTH. Maybe one of
them is right but maybe the truth has not been discovered yet. So
the bible presents itself as THE TRUTH. Do you believe? I do. Its
up to you. No right, no wrong.
Well, the first group of people of people tat believe Mars have
no intelligent beings may end up being the second group tat claims
there is. Why he change ? Because they made the "best" guess out of
the presented evidence. If more evidence are presented, they will
switch their stand.
Now for the others. When presented with proofs, will u still
stubbornly remains on the "old" side or switch your side ?
If bible is true, surely there must be overwhelming evidence tat
proves it. Why there isn't much now ? Why do science want to sing a
different tune to religion in some cases ? They will get a better
reward if they go for bible instead of against bible isn't it,
especially in the past where religion has more power
But i BELIEVE! Reilgion and science has their places in this
world. I believe in God because of certain experiences I had but
yet I believe in science too because I believe it is a tool to help
us answer many questions.
Other religion have similar experiences as described by most
christians. Do u think u r more special than people of the other
religion ? Do u think your experiences will means more than the
others ? My point is, experiences doesn't really means
anything...
Believe not because of evidence or facts but believe just to
believe is a bit... wrong... From your stand till now.. it appears
u only have faith... and to me faith is irrational and u may have
wasted your resources in something tat was... well... to put it
strongly... a lie....
Ah precisely. They occur naturally. I believe God created us who
we are but thats take it from your point that they occur naturally.
Since it occurs naturally and science cant prove it and neither can
religion, then why should science be more relevant than religion?
What I am trying to say here is that, again, science cannot prove
everything but it is important. Religion cant give you everything
but to many it is still important. Is one more relevant over the
other? It would be unfair to say that cos both serves different
purposes.
If it appears naturally, then science will have answer for it...
Asking "why" is silly since there isn't any
background reason for things to appear as they r. Asking
why in the first place is already a wrong question...
Religion is important ? I think u need to tell me more as I still
can't see your point why it is important............... I guess
most aspects from society exhibit the problem of religion other
than the benefits of it.
I have a fren who is vegetarian. He has a wife, good family and
good career. He has a fulfilling life and eats only vegetables. Can
he then say that animals like chicken or duck or pigs are
unnecessary because they are leading a fulfilling lives without
them. He can speak for himself but people who eats meat, these
animals are absolutely important. Thus, what is not necessary to
freethinkers, it would be barbaric to insist that it is not
necessary to the rest of the world. Religion is as important to
some people as no religion is important to freethinkers.
Well, lets say u r a doctor and u r in a village where everyone
is a vegetarians. Due to being vegetarians, they all suffer from
iron deficiency related health problem which can be easily replace
by taking meat. As a doctor, won't u advise the people to take in
meat regularly to be healthy ?
If science cannot prove something, it doesnt mean those things
do not exist or is fake. Afterall science is imperfect. Like what I
say, if i am strictly a religious person and only believes in
religion, then I would say that cholestrol wun clog up my heart
because no religion says that! But yet I believe because science
told me that. And since science is imperfect, it cannot be used as
a yardstick to say that other claims made are false or
non-existent.
There is something tat contradicts here... u believe in science
for cholestrol thingy, why not believe in it for proving of non
possiblility of bible events ? Science though imperfect, it is
already excellent. There must be some truth in why computer works
because u see it working in front of u. Even if maybe some of the
modeling of some of the mathematical expression is not perfect or
correct, it has achieve "near perfect" answer for certain
questions.
The bible did talk about certain events that happen not so long
ago. There are many but I will just quote one of them here.
In Leviticus 26:3, 7-8, the Bible says that the army of Israel
would have a supernatural power to prevail during times of
conflict, if the people are obedient to the Lord. This Bible
passage says that 5 people would be able to chase away 100 people,
and that 100 would be able to chase away 10,000. Is there any proof
to this incredible claim? Judge for yourself:
Within hours of Israel's declaration of independence in 1948,
Egypt, Syria, Jordan, Iraq, and Lebanon invaded Israel. The
combined population of those countries was at least 20 million at
that time. Israel had fewer than 1 million Jews. Even so, the Jews
won the war
If u want to talk about war glories, there r a lot of them in
ancient china or ancient medditerrean history... My impression of a
grand win despite number odd is the war of Chi Bi. Cao Cao has
enormous numbers at their disposal yet he still suffer an
incredible setback. Is there any religious issue in tis ? Is Liu
Bei a religious hero or faithful to God ? U can go through history
and see more than hundreds of examples where a smaller group of
force triumph over overwhelming odds.
Precisely that it is impossible to know everything should we
keep an open mind towards everything. For science to disprove or
displace religion, it has to first prove to us that religion is
obsolete and irrelevant. But to do that, it has to first know
everything! But it cant! i believe in God and I have never tried to
displace science because it has its place, it has its purpose here
on earth.
It already have substantial evidence tat certain event in the
past never exists or illogical in the first place. To demand
science to be perfect first is an unreasonable request. It had
already known enough to challenge its relevance.
Actually your whole argument just revolves around "faith". U just
keep saying I believe in it, regardless of watever tat happened in
the world, regardless how absurb some passages are written when
compared with the knowledge we have now.
Just a question for u. Wat do u believe in ? God. Then wat do u
know about him ? Is he kind ? benovelent ? or wat ?
I believe in God and I believe that God gave us science to help
us progress. Like what my lecturer once told me that when a
lecturer gives you notes and books, it is meant to help you to
improve on your studies not to replace the lecturer. The lecturer
still holds a great purpose. So, I believe that both can
coexists.
Well, the notes is not meant to replace the lecturer. It is
meant to help u in your studies. It is also meant as a hope for u
to one day, be a better scholar than he is. God gives us reasoning,
tat is why we can reasoned about science. Why go against his will
and waste it in this issue ? If lecturer gives u notes, why because
you do not want to have a possibility of replacing him, throw the
notes away ?
