If you compare his answer to the one given by a black girl in
the same audition - she wore a 50s style pink flower dress with a
flower in her hair... she answered that she would buy a pink
convertible to go with her pink dress or something. Seemingly
superficial, shallow answer, but honest and entertaining - it was
well received.
I was surprised that this guy got kicked out too. But I think the
judges were looking for entertainment and novelty factor, and lots
of attitude, rather than a drab goody two-shoes kinda
personality.
I really liked that pink 50s girl though 
She got x factor.
