I wanna apply for financial asst. Anybody knows any criteria to meet, if not I guess I'm not gonna try cuz I don't want another wasted effort. Thanks.

Financial Assistance Scheme

Financial assistance is available to help needy NSFs whose families suffer
from financial hardship as a result of their enlistment into the SAF.

You can apply for a financial assistance grant/ loan through your Unit MPO / S1 Branch.

You can call MINDEF Shared Services (MSS) PSC @ 6373 1150 for help to the application process, criteria and eligibility.

And also, if your family needs financial assistance or if you have financial difficulties, you may wish to speak to your superior about avenues of help available. You may want to consider applying for the SAF financial grants or official permission to work after office hours. Requests of this nature will be assessed by the unit on a case-by-case basis.

FYI if I'm not wrong SAF will never offer you direct financial assistence i.e. give you cash. They will try to offer subsidies or grants etc. I was once a clerk in my unit's S1 branch. Most cases will be referred to S1 then to CO. Rarely does the case escalate to CMPB or MINDEF. And I'm in a transport unit if you get what I mean. We usually try to settle things unofficially without having to stir up too much trouble like let you stay out, let you work outside or try to give you more off. Of course this si on a case by case basis. We have servicemen who abuse the system and of course their privileges are resricted. My advice is if you really want help, try to be as useful to the unit as possible. We always give the most to the people who contribute the most. Not sure if I'm of any help but yeah this is my experience:)
