Uni Placement: NS Disruption due to ORD & 1st Day of School?

Hi guys, I've managed to secure a place at NTU in the Aug intake in 2011 but my ord date is on 23 Oct 11. My initial thoughts were to defer but am having second thoughts because I am not sure if NTU has 3 mths break. Even if it has, I was hoping to use it for some revision and to take a breather.

I've asked around a but the answers were not convicing enough so I'll like to seek more opinions here. Please advise, thanks in advance!!

Arrangement with Institutes of Higher Learning (IHL)
MINDEF has an existing arrangement with the three local universities (i.e. NUS, NTU and SMU) for undergraduate NSmen who are studying in these universities to be called up for ICT only during specific parts of the university vacations. In turn, the universities will ensure that no academic programmes are scheduled during this period. This arrangement is applicable to undergraduate NSmen in their first 3 years of studies.

NSmen pursuing full-time tertiary education are NOT disrupted from NS. They can be called up for NS activities such as ICT, IPPT and mobilisation manning.

Aug 2011 intake means U report for school in Aug....U ORD in Oct...unless U can find a way to get leave for the approx 2 months...U have to defer.

You may have to defer.

However, you can also accumulate your offs-in-lieu and annual leave and try to curry favour with a sympathetic commander into giving you extra days off.

That said, there's an element of risk in doing so, because your unit can simply recall you as long as you're officially still under them.

Same here, ORD officially finishing on 30 Sep 2012. But uni starting in August 2012. As far as I know, it may very well depends on the situation and officer in charge. I'm hoping hoping I'll get to defer or smth, wouldn't even mind coming back during uni holidays to finish it up or even extend ns to get it.

Depend on unit policy, last time my fren used his leaves for early release. Some units are kind enough to allow this and some are not?
