Dear members,
I am a NS men Reservist really having some
problems here and hope somone could help... really will appreciate
it...
Scenerio 1:
Year 1996 Combat vocation and injured left arm
elbow(hairline crack) during active NS days and put on
medicalboard. Medicalboard MC states Pes B, to change vocation and
excuse chin up permanent. However, active NS unit did not revocate
me and assigned me do storeman for my company until the
unit ORD... Meantime, now, serving Reservist and still do IPPT with
chin-up not excused. And reservist vocation still combat status
Pes B didn't change. I faithfully followed my old unit for
reservist for a few years, and help out as storeman, as my CSM
internally acknowledged me as storeman. But on paperwork, it was
never updated. I still kept that medicalboard MC for safekeeping.
Don't understand why old unit not willing to formally change my
vocation or update my IPPT excuse chin-up. Until scenerio 2 happens
then i realised i shld have insisted on pestering my old unit to
change my vocation and update excuse chin-up...pls read scenerio
2...
Senerio 2:
Year 2002 unfortunately contracted
Pneumothorax at home when training running for IPPT; was
hospitalised and chest tube inserted. Medicalboard gave MC stating
E9L9 temp for 6 months. That is when my reservist unit and
Mindef totally stopped calling me back for any reservist in-camp
duties... My unit eventually stand-down and finished their
reservist cycle but i was not called up at all... I did not finish
with my own reservist batch due to this
pneumothorax...
Then 6 years later, Mindef dropped a 'BOMB' and
called me back for reservist in-camp. I went for the
in-camp and to my dismay, discovered i was already upgraded to
Pes B and combat vocation. Puzzled why medicalboard did not
informed me about the upgraded Pes B status. Reservist S1 Chief
clerk refused to recognise my well-kept old MC(the one stating
change vocation and excuse chin-up perm) and the MC stating E9L9
temp 6 mths(due to pneumothorax). He insisted that the 1st MC is no
longer valid and it's my previous active Unit's mistake to not
update or change vocation for me. He also stated that my 2nd MC is
also not valid anymore as the Pneumothorax shld hve resolved
after 6 years and i am as fit as a horse now and hence the upgraded
status!!!! I immediately reported sick and seeked the reservist
MO's help but disappointingly, he sang the same 'song' as my S1
Chief clerk, and said all my MC are not valid
now...
Not giving up, i bookout and went to see
my respiratory specialist, and after chest x-ray check, he
reconfirmed that my pneumothorax had indeed resolved, but i had
slight asthma(PEPR 300) and Rhinosinusitis. I obtained a memo from
my specialist, but dunno whether to endorse to my reservist MO for
medicalboard review, given the fact that reservist MO is not as
approachable as I presumed…
Question 1:
I thought Pneumothrax is considered life
threathening, and why am i given only temp E9L9 status and not
reviewed after that? Worse still, 'super' upgrade to Pes B despite
me having been operated on chest!!! I suppose heart attack,
also happen as suddenly as Pneumothrax, but it seemed pneumothrax
is considered nothing serious after the first attack has resolved?
Anyone here convenient to provide some enlightening comments
regarding this? Shld't one be given a perm Pes C status even though
the pneumothorax has resolved? Coz there is high chance that
the pneumothorax will repeat again, as what we expect from a heart
attack patient... Why is medicalboard risking my safety? And i
reckon no one will pity me if my pneumothorax strikes again... The
chest pain still seasonally comes back on and off very
often....
Question 2:
How to go about endorsing my old medicalboard
MC stating excuse chin-up perm and change vocation? I mean, given
that my reservist camp S1 chief clerk and MO refused to accept the
MC. Or is it like what they said, these MCs are
longer useful?
Question 3:
Given my history of all these illness, what
would, roughly be my Pes status, if i go for a medicalboard review
now? I heard we can book medicalboard review through 'e-health' at
the ns-portal.com website?
Once again, thanks for reading my post
and kindly advise me on what to do next...
