i read through the whole thread and was mildly amused by you, especially your 1st response to the news about the arrest of someone -"SAF now finding scapegoat???!!" which paints in a single crystallised moment to everyone how ridiculous you are and have behaved.

You are totally oblivious and blind to how 'self-styled victimised', irrational and prejudiced you sound. You already decided and are bent on that it was SAF who "killed" the officer and the man is also another "victim" when you have no facts on your hand.

NS is mandatory for all citizens of a small vulnerable country. You're welcome to leave and make somewhere else your home rather than have the people here having to co-exist and put up with a bitter person in their midst.

Statistically speaking, no military in the world can prevent accidents from happening. That is life.

What is more important is that individual servicemembers understand what safety means and what common sense is.. those two will reduce unnecessary accidents more than any other thing, victim mentality included.

What's the logical likelihood of it being an 'accident' when there is now confirmed a driver in the vehicle? It's impossible that the driver was not aware that the vehicle rolled back and onto someone's body. Even if he was the blurrest sotong in the history of Singapore since Sang Nila Utama, after he realised the vehicle rolled onto someone, isn't it logical for him, the driver to steer the vehicle forward to get off the victim? So why didn't he?

I can't 'politicise' something that has nothing to do with politics. go figure.The root of the unhappiness is with conscription, (which is necessary) and also I suspect, in other forums the government. The solution is obvious.

if you're a SG male, then it will break your heart that 2 years of your life is wasted away.

2 years = 17520 hrs.....imagine how much u can do with that time (btw, in NS, 75% of the time is spent on slacking due to nothing to do)

Haha why should I leave when i am happy here? I suggested you leave because you feel unhappy, so damn sad about your life hahah. The constructive solution is to get lost so you can end your misery, but I can see you prefer to remain in whatever miserable state you're in and continue to whine. It would have been good if you had not politicised the thread with your last paragraph.

The legislation and nature of the country, are independent of its politics. The judiciary, armed forces and other non political attributes of the government are non-partisan. That's why the judiciary can prosecute a politician. And the armed forces can oust a political party. Even if tomorrow an opposition party overthrows the incumbent, the nature of the country and need for conscription remain the same. You have confused politicking, which is about party politics and running for office and voting, with many non-partisan attributes of the country which include defence, public policy and legislation. If you're smart enough, you'll know what I mean.

It's not too late to get lost although you have already 'lost' those 2 years that you woe and 'believe' to be 'unnecessary'. At least you will not have to do reservist anymore when you leave SG and will perhaps refrain from embarrassing yourself more by defending future 'officer murderers'.

Keep on whining and you, not anyone else, just look stupid not doing anything to remove yourself from your unhappy state! This gem of an advice I give to you out of love. But I'm quite sure you'll opt to remain in status quo. There're personality types that constructively resolve their problems. Its evident which type you belong to. This could b a case of serious neglience and it is better to have a press conference to update on the outcome of the investigation since the drive has been detained. If not, there could b wild guesses. I think it is true that NS is a waste of time but the bad thing is local need to serve before being able to migrate to other countries.

Nikar7, if you have a gripe with TheMissus, take it to the PM. We already know what your views on your own behavior in war-time, you don't have to keep on harping about it here. This is a thread for condolences and reflection, not a debate on the ethical foundation of National Service.

Please, everyone here have some respect for the deceased, whether or not you agree with the way things are carried out. It's called human decency not to bicker, flame and quarrel in such a circumstance.

Although this happened months ago. But actions have been taken.

SINGAPORE: A 19-year-old has been charged for causing death by a negligent act in which a military Land Rover rolled backwards and killed full-time National Serviceman Second Lieutenant (2LT) Nicholas Chan Wei Kit.

Muhammad Abdul Qaiyuum Bin Muhammed Iskander is alleged to have engaged the reverse gear and stepped on the accelerator, causing the vehicle to surge backwards and roll over 2LT Chan on July 3 last year.

2LT Chan, a Motor Transport Officer, was taking delivery of the SAF land rover in Seletar Camp when the incident happened. A recovery vehicle, activated half an hour later, managed to lift the Land Rover.

A medical team from Seletar Medical Centre tried to resuscitate 2LT Chan. The 21-year-old was sent to Changi General Hospital where he was pronounced dead.

Muhammad Abdul Qaiyuum was in court with his family and his lawyer, Mr A R Marican, for yesterday's pre-trial conference. Mr Marican told reporters he would make representations to the Attorney-General Chambers. The next pre-trial conference is scheduled on February 8.
