Good Superior ?

Marco_Simone SG

We always hear of bad superiors in the SAF pulling ranks, treating their men like crap,no welfare at all for them.

But I am sure there are a few white sheeps out of the whole lot of black ones right?

Care to share your examples of good commanders?

SBS2601D SG

Good commander is no commander.

jgho83 SG

The good ones are usually those lower ranking commander or commanders who are NSFs.

Lower rank like anywhere from 3SG to 2WO.

Usually la.

I tend to agree-NCOs are much better. I think officers especially those newly minted 2LTs from JCs are the worst of the lot.

i used a few fire extinguishers to put out the fire in the turret when i went for live firing demo...

PC wan me to sign 1206 for the few extinguishers i used...

OC is better, wan me to sign for only 1...

in the end, my encik said i dun have to sign coz i helped to put out the fire...

if i didnt extinguish the fire, i dunno how im gonna sign the 1206 for the turret and possibly the armour vehicle...

WOW! that is fucked up to the core! Should just let the vehicle burn

wait, you would have to pay more if it did. What a catch-22 situation. And good encik you have there. At least have some iota of common sense.

Marco_Simone SG

Those air levels NSF LTs really no common sense…

too fresh? maybe no experience.

good superiors are the ones that can earn ur respect,

to me is like respecting that person more than his rank,

YSL(Young Second Lieutenants)

I met quite a number of incompetent ones.

I still think the Warrant Officers and MSGs are better.

I lucked out and got more legends than turkeys. Definitely on top of my list are (ranks at the time) Cpt Ng Heng Chew and Sgt Sundram - absolute pros who got down to the job with no chickenshit nonsense.

I was lucky during NSF days to have maybe one OC who was not very good. It was in the old days when in the training school I was in, some OCs were LTA in rank. They were regulars. This OC had a lot of conflict with the officers ( who were NSF) and with the NCOs at that time. Maybe he had a feeling of insecurity. Much later, during my reservist, my CO and I somehow spoke about this chap and the impression given by my CO who was a regular, was that this chap was written off as leadership material a long time ago.

During reservist, I had a mix of regular and reserve COs and OCs. They were fine. Notably, the best ones were from Commando or SOF. It was really leadership by example. It was not uncommon to see one regular Major, ex-SOF, to go on a close recce with all his gear. And this was without any umpire or higher -ups watching us. It was a purely personal thing with him.

3 SIR CO for 10th Mono best. Always go chiong with the men.

He is SOF btw.

Hokkien 兵 commander is the best.
