Those that does are the stupid ones. Just as well not to work for them. Therefore if you don't have NS liabilities and work for such employers, good luck to you.

But discrimination also work both ways, exployers can also screen out those who are exempted from NS, on the presumption that there must be something physically wrong with the Singaporean male to be exempted from NS.

Asking for NS status is no different from asking for your marital status or any other reasonable personal detail.

Saw this post on omy’s forum by a person called 我的天 who claimed that local job search portal, JobsDB added a “reservist” option in their selection fields under “Personal Details => National Service”.

This is a very touchy issue as it concerns all Singapore male CITIZENS who have served National Service. Does the additional field implies it may be used as a screening criteria for potential employers?

I have heard rumours that some companies have discriminatory hiring practices with regards to males with reservist liabilities, but chose to dismiss them as unfounded. I hope this is not happening as it will be extremely unfair to Singapore born males like me who have this extra burden saddled upon us.

In some sense yes. Recentlly I just discussed this with my friend who just have a new job. I ask him to deferr because it is ridiciulous to tell the boss that, "heh! I am going to go reservist for 2 weeks." on the first day of work.

I hate Reservist as work would just have to piled up for 2 weeks for me to clear. Email still kept coming and things still have to settle. Clients would not give excuse for me going to reservist. Poor me! In fact reservist is extra work. Still have to work extra hours to cover my civilian job scope. Should have just sign on.

Do u understand that guys at the age of 17 to 21yo are most vulunerable to gangsters, pimps, drugs, fights, sex, and other anti vice activities, by getting them into the army provide that discipline buffer so that sg guys can come out and apply their leadership and discipline learnt in NS into work, most will be mature enuf, even we gals also like guys who had completed their NS, they also look for stronger and muscular, able to take the hardship of life. And you, i guess you must be carrying Admiral Teo's bag during your NS time, so free, no wonder learned nothing.

pes a, b, and c will serve the usual 10year reservist cycle.

pes e will serve a fewer ICT than the usual 10year reservist cycle and pes f only they no reservist.

when stand down from reservist, means already put in mindef reserve (MR) after finished the ICT cycle. by then, u r too old. employers also dont want u liao due to ur age.

my employer just simply pass my work to my colleagues.

similarly, when my colleagues goes for reservist, their work are split up and shared equally among the other colleagues...

whats the big deal... then if u go for holiday using ur annual leaves, ur boss can say not happy and fired u due to u taking annual leaves...?

FYI, I come from an armor unit, it is really torturous, nt juz physically.. Even as I am sitting at home typing.. my friends are booking in NOW Do you know the freedom that you'll lose when you serve NS? Cannot see your family and friends for sometimes as long as 15 days? It is horrible, I dun want to go through it again

I have heard my US boss ever lament why Singaporean males need to serve NS. Especially when someone goes on a 3 week reservist stint, she would question why such a small country like Singapore needs their reservists to go back for training for so long.

I am just attesting to ACTUAL FACTS that there are employers that do not like Singaporeans going for reservist, ESPECIALLY when the job scope is very important to the company.

On the contrary to your claims, it's a big deal. 2 weeks or 3 weeks reservist means losing a personnel for 10 to 15 working days. Adding the NS liability to the annual leave = almost double the actual annual leave (usually 14 - 18 days for most people these days)

So instead of a personnel that you give him 14-18 days leave, you now have a personnel that has 24 - 33 days leave. That's a WHOLE LOT of difference

I do not know if it's a coincidence, but I noticed my org employing more females (esp those who already have given birth) when male employees leave the org.

I used to know a gal in sec school and poly who was decent and good, by the time she left poly and entered the working world, she started to drink and smoke. She graduated from poly at 22 years old and this age is already adult, now she is 27 and still doing those things.

Currently with he availability of cheap foreign labour, Reservist duties are causing more harm than before. Because employers now have another segment to choose from - THOSE WITHOUT RESERVIST LAIBILITIES ( foreign workers).

CoMPANIES DONT CARE ABOUT RESERVIST. THEY ONLY CARE ABOUT PROFITS AND EXPENSE.

Hey guys cool down, allow me to say something. I can understand how you guys feel. Being pissed off by this angel7030, including me also being pissed off by her.

I also when thru NS. I also from armour unit except that I'm non-combatant but my PES status state that I'm able for frontline duty except from direct combat.

If I'm the defence minister, I will pass the bill to the parliment to make ladies also NS liable! This is fair and square.
