btw, do you know for a while, there was a scam?

SUV owners were paying people to "steal" their SUVs... then they'd go make a stolen vehicle report.. the "thieves" would go to the desert to torch the SUVs and the guy would make an insurance claim...

this was because the owners were kicking themselves for being stupid enough to buy a useless, expensive and gas-guzzling SUV but few were that dumb to want to buy it off their hands...

so in desperation, they hired people to torch their cars...

btw.. about the hummer being the 'coolest' SUV.. go look up the topic about a collision between a hummer and a school bus... the hummer was absolutely totalled.. and the school bus seemed almost undamaged Laughing

Yup.....I love the Hummer too, test drove one when I was at their manufacturing plant some years back....I love big vehicles like SUVs...currently driving a Chevy Tahoe....does that count? ....although its technically a truck

I'm assuming you're referring to this collision between a "Hummer" and a school bus.

Just as an FYI, that "Hummer" is an H2, which is nothing more than a run-of-the-mill Chevy Suburban SUV made to look like the actual H1 Hummer in use by the US armed forces. Apart from the moniker, the H1 and H2 Hummers are completely different vehicles; there's absolutely nothing milspec about the H2.

Frankly, if they get killed it's their own business - too bad, so sad.

The stupid thing about SUVs is their ride height relative to other vehicles on the road. I don't fancy sitting at the lights minding my own business and having a bull bar come through my window because some soccer mom doesn't know the difference between a brake and an accelerator.

Generally people who drive Hummers (big and powerful) have an innate need to dominate. A hummer enhances the feeling of masculinity too so it helps put their gender identity at ease.

I think it really depends on the image/status setting as well. Some celebrities tend to choose large SUVs instead of flashy convertibles.

I think those who go for Defenders generally have the "warrior complex." They need control and power. The high seating position is attractive to people who are vertically challenged. I know of several short men/women who drive or want to drive RAV 4s etc.

Not so sure about Daihatsu Copen (definitely not a mid life crisis car.) IMHO probably the younger crowd or first time drivers who want to be seen as free, fun loving and casual. I think the image any vehicle represents more or less makes up for what the driver is lacking in real life.
