He's a bit too young to be the NEXT one after MG Neo. Probably someone will be (maybe BG Tan or BG Lim or BG Singh) then him.

When did he move up as Commander 9 DIV ? When i ORDed Nov 2003, it was BG Neo Kian Hong then.

Just a side note, have you been to the Officers Mess at 9 Div ? If you ever read the plaque of the past commanders, our ex CDF LG Lim Chuan Poh was at the helm of 9 Div for 9 mths only, before moving up

He did not talk too much to us, mostly on prep and Bn level stuff to prepare us for our ATEC and grooming us officers to noe Bn level SOPs at a command level.

Pretty interesting though. He is also quite a no-nosense guy. He quizzed our ATGM PC where will he site his weapons on the map, the PC pointed to a particular square and circled that area, he retorted back to the poor YSL " Look I tell your CO where to capture by drawing an circle on this square, your CO tells your OCs to capture which objectives in that square, so where do u think you should be telling me where EXCATLY you should be siting your weapons ?" Laughing

It is unlikely that he will become COA 9 months from taking over 9 div now as MG Neo just ascended to the throne.

he took over last year during may. as for lim chuan poh, it was just a transition period, needed someone to fill in that gap for awhile. so he heng heng took up that appt lor. wat rank were u last time man? to be able to walk in officer mess must be quite a somebody. but then again, i walk in and out like free, no one bother abt me also. always doing sai kang for my office even though im a clerk.

as for BG Chan to become next COA, need quite some time more la. but im quite sure he's one of the top contenders now.

Actually am rather disappointed that BG Bernard Tan went to join DBS. I always thought he was the sort to commit himself to public service for as long as he could. He's one of the sharpest and most intelligent Generals I spoke to. Someone of his calibre could easily be a PS (perm sec) or DS (deputy sec) but I guess remuneration is too much of a carrot to resist. A PS is paid easily 50K I believe..

Yea I am surprised too. Must be something about DBS? Able to attract BGs.. BG Wong Ann Chai also went there, which is why I mentioned BG Bernard Tan leaving.

hey guys this is interesting, talk more leh. what about the CDF? i think it's interesting how LG Ng Yat Chung had become a 2-star general even though he wasn't the chief of a service. if I remember correctly, he was the head of an important Joint unit and also COS-JS. he later became the CDF.

and i thought each service's JS position would usually be the next-in-line to the Chief position?

FORMER defence chief Ng Yat Chung has joined the senior management of Singapore investment company Temasek Holdings.

Lieutenant-General Ng, 46, took up the position of portfolio management managing director on Sunday - a newly created role, The Straits Times understands.

Temasek confirmed the appointment on Tuesday but declined to provide further details.

The appointment comes less than four months after Lt-Gen Ng stepped down as Chief of Defence Force and handed the baton to then Major-General Desmond Kuek.

It mirrors similar movements of other military leaders to civilian positions. Lt-Gen Ng's predecessor, Lt-Gen Lim Chuan Poh, for example, is the chairman of the Agency for Science, Technology and Research.

A career soldier since 1979, Lt-Gen Ng was awarded the Singapore Armed Forces (SAF) Overseas Scholarship in 1980 and has since held many key command and staff positions.

Before taking the helm of the SAF in 2003, he was Chief of Army. He has also served as director for joint operations and planning and Chief of Staff (Joint Staff).

During his four years at the head of the SAF, Lt-Gen Ng was credited with improving the SAF's operational readiness and steering it into the next generation.

Outside the military, he is a member of the board of trustees at the National University of Singapore, chairing its campus planning and development committee.

Lt-Gen Ng is a Cambridge University graduate, has an MBA from Stanford University and recently completed the Advanced Management Programme at Harvard University.
