Workers planning a holiday can look forward to seven long weekends
next year.
The Ministry of Manpower has released a list of dates of public
holidays for 2017, with a total of 11 gazetted public holidays.
Seven of these holidays fall on a Friday, Sunday or Monday. This is
an increase from six
days this year.
Three public holidays next year fall on a Sunday. When a public
holiday falls on a Sunday, the following Monday will be a day
off.

One of the public holidays next year falls on a Saturday. Workers
who are not required to work on Saturdays are entitled to another
day off or an extra day's salary in lieu of that public
holiday.
Workers who are required to work on a public holiday are entitled
to an extra day's salary. Alternatively, an employer and employee
may mutually agree for the worker to claim a day off for working on
a holiday.
The public can access the list of public holidays for 2017 on
the Ministry of Manpower
website.
