As mentioned in the Subject.

Anyone who knows how to be presented with a personal sword during the course of NSF?

Although I know that by graduating from OCS, then will they be presented with the swords, but are the any other ways to be presented with swords other than going through OCS?

blitzonic SG

Yeah. Pass out as GDSman.

Question

Explain how to get it by this way.

mr_sotong SG

blitzonic is talking rubbish.. Laughing

Ferguson SG

you have to buy it in OCS

casshern SG

by learning how to spell “criteria” correctly

sir sickolot II SG

a sword is a symbol of officership. thus i’m quite certain the only way to aquire a sword is to have graduated from OCC. buying from beach road is another alternative… i can’t be totally sure if you can get it that way, but it would be meaningless

vIn.Warrior SG

earn it in OCS, u mean.

National Day Parade RSM carry sword as well.

soulwinner SG

borrow from an officer?

vIn.Warrior SG

alternatively, you can choose to sign on as a specialist.

Rise up the ranks; be a Parade RSM in a parade. There, you'll get your ceremonial sword.

But sword is just a sword. You can buy in from anywhere, online or custom-make. if what you want is to hold on the sword and feel 'shiok', then go custom-make one or buy a plastic toy-type.

Sword is just but a symbol of recognision for OCS graduants. If you're empty inside, then no point having the sword.

nightzip SG

buy one from beside the sim lim tower, 2nd hand weekend pasar malam?

Swords are worn at a parade or ceremony where the No 1 dress is prescribed, for the following officers:

1. Reviewing Officer (if they are commissioned SAF Officer)
2. Officers escorting the Reviewing Officer
3. Commander of the Formation/Unit organising the parade or ceremony
4. Parade Commander
5. Contingent Commanders
6. Supernumerary Officers
7. Parade RSM

All Officers of the rank of Major and above will don the ceremonial sword for functions/ ceremonies when instructed. As a general rule, swords need not be worn during indoor ceremonies.

Actually and basically, to get the sword, juz wayang kulit yor way in everything.

the_fallen SG

I heard from my platoon mate that by being a commando, and to be participating in just 1 one the NDP, than will be able to get a personal sword (Name Craved On It).

How true is it?

It's something that can't be bought.

Btw: what does RSM means?

Gordonator SG

RSM means Regimental Sergeant Major.

btw, your thread title is wrong and misleading. the sword is called a ceremonial sword, not any normal swords u see in fantasy movies and wu xia dramas.

i assume u haven't enlisted yet right?

seancannot SG

I think if u are SOH winner u can the sword free otherwise must buy and its different colour

specialOps SG

Dun act like u're in army if you're not leh...unless you recruit then I nothing to say.

Your platoon mate from NCC or wat? Commandos dun get sword, NDP dun get sword leh, wake up ur idea. Name engrave la...crave what crave.

Sword only for Officers and Warrant Officers who are parade RSMs.

Nobody below the Warrant Officer rank should be seen carrying a sword.

RSM = Regimental Sergeant Major. Now they trying to change image of being like a discipline master who enforce regimentation, so RSMs are renamed as "School Sergeant Major", Brigade Sergeant Major, etc. Basically the discipline master or what the 3G army calls the "WOSE's mentor" and example.
