ya some shop owners there can be quite rude to customers. i have
personally encountered a few myself.
Yeah, some of them got quite cutthroat after the '80s. I'd grown
up nearby there in the '70s. One-room flat, but a corner one on the
highest floor with a spectacular view of Merdeka Bridge/National
Stadium.
When younger, my dad had once saved the old lady who used to run
the stall at the extreme right end of the floor, next to the
staircase into the estate. (He'd piggybacked her home in the rain
after she fainted -- really melodramatic stuff ~lol~) So I usually
got a good deal from her whenever I went back, though I usually
reciprocated by buying something from the hawker centre below. Some
people knew her in the '90s as the one always sitting in the
rocking chair but, the last time I was there, her daughter-in-law
had taken over the business &, pleasantries aside, it became
just like any other stall.
