(n that is one very big all gold epaulette...)(n that gorget patch is huge...) n how come he got 2 whistle chains? i see others some like only got one, different meaning, shows that he is CDF?

SpecOps87 SG

Not sure bout the beret crest backing, but I do notice that all colonels and above have them.

vIn.Warrior SG

for general ranks in the army, their cap/beret badge will be icon of a baton and sword in saltire within a laurel wreath surmounted with the national arms

kiddyduck SG

That 1 not whistle chain la... LOL he not MP....

That is the dunno-call-what.. used to secure both sides of the armour in the medieval periods... just a formal dress... Gold eppaulettes are part of generals' No. 1 uniform. The collar got 2 red patches, that is call coollar guards... only colonel and above have... used to protect their necks in the olden days...
Now everything become part of the uniform....
To find out more, can ask your RSM... Laughing

Its called aguilettes…He has only 1 aguilette since it is essential for all CDFs in Singapore to wear one for ceremonial wear. The two crests “medals” are overseas medals..One of them is a Thai Medal if im not wrong…BGs and above have a different crest backing on their beret and their peak cap..

venny SG

its also called gorget patch, sorry for the jargon, but at least i know this one.... Razz

anyway, thx for the info guys. jus curious about our cdf though. n if u wondering where i got the pic, its frm the ndp book: Snapshots of the biggest party of the year.

Reveille SG

They are also worn by Presidential ADCs, and Defence Attaches. Also by Directors of Music. If I am not mistaken, bandsmen wear something like that as well, only not in gold.

Unknown_X SG

the red patches. ltc is 1 line across diagonally. col is 2. general is ivy leaf. or is it col, bg and mg, and lg. not very sure. but got sth to do with rank.

the crest. ltc and below is the normal one we have. col is a bigger and more 3d version. and for generals, like the one lg quek has. damn nice.

Ponders SG

COL's crest is different too.

Gordonator SG

iii. Cap/Beret Badges

General-level ranks - Baton and sword in saltire within a laurel wreath surmounted with the national arms

Colonel - National arms within a laurel wreath

All other ranks (PTE to LTC) - SAF badge. Military Policemen will wear the SAF Military Police Command cap/beret badge

You can find pictures of the gorget patches and more in that website as well.

One more question, which should be a simple one.

What are the medals he is wearing? The orange/white one and the brown/white one is for years in service. What about the red/white one?

sir sickolot II SG

Public Admin Medal i think. 3 grades - bronze, silver, gold

And yes, the 2 big badges are foreign (most probably) honours bestowed on him for his contribution to military relations.

KoolKool SG

I think Raffles Hotel doorman also wears the aiguillettes.

Aiguillette
The aiguillette is an insignia used to distinguish officers holding certain appointments. They are worn with all uniforms except the No.4 dress.

The following officers are entitled to wear the aiguillette:

1. Chief of Defense Force (CDF) , whilst in No 1, 2 and 5 dress
2. Aide-De-Camp (ADC) to the President
3. Honourary ADC to the President
4. Military Attache (MA) and Assistant MA
5. Director of Music during band performance
6. MA/SO to CDF & Service Chiefs

Gorget
Gorget patches are worn with the Number 1 dress uniform for Army officers above the rank of COL. They are fastened at the collar with the base at the forward edge of the collar and the pointed edge inwards. It can be described
as a coloured collar patch (usually red) with a button and either gold lace oak leaf motif or silk cord.

In the SAF, gorget patches come in the following designs:

1. For COLs: A red patch with one gold braid lacing down the centre and a small gold button at the point.
2. For BGs: A red patch with two gold braids lacing down the centre and a small gold button at the point.
3. MGs and Above: A red patch with gold oak leaf embroidery down the centre and a gold button at the point.
