Anyway, it really is not the point. Even professional Athletes get the jitters before a race. It human nature. If you push the run later, say at 10:30, the there will issues like a higher temperature to deal with.

they start early is cuz of the cooler weather. another thing is to close the road. if start late, will affect more traffic = more revenue for the shops. but there are always 2 grps of ppl la, pro early and anti early. for me, i rather early. den quickly get it over and done with. go home rest and go out again later if i song.

Sad to say, until today, some medical conditions that predispose to sudden death eg vasospasmic heart attack, aneurysm in the brain, viral myocarditis etc cannot be adequately screened for.

Did he complete the run?

This guy was super fit, which makes it so tragic. ST reported he finished the 21 km in (just) 90 minutes, before collapsing. TODAY also said he'd finished 23rd out of 1,369 participants in a 10 km run last month.

The medics did their best this time around, so let's not speculate further. If it's attributed to heart failure (ala Thaddeus Cheong), I'm not sure any prior FFI could've sussed out the vulnerability either. Point is, his body was already conditioned to being under severe physical stress until now.

but it is quite disappointing that the event officials including the ministers who took part...

sounded quite insincere saying condolences for the family but in the same sentence mentioned they already put in place all necessary medical personnel.

the thing that bothers me is that when some1 dies .. the media will always focus their reports on how "efficient" the medical assistence is .. in short they r more focus on wayanging and covering their asses as some1 died in service .. Mad

putting it in another perspective, they are trying to reassure the public that the best possible medical coverage was around, and even then, accidents do happen. It may not be the intention for people to ‘wash their hands’ off the incident… although it seems compelling to believe so

the reports did exaggerate the numbers a little. there weren't as many medics as mentioned, probably half of what was given. equipment weren't hospital standard obviously.

i found out from the medics who were at the scene that even though the casualty was brought to the resuscitation point in 30 seconds, his heart had already stopped. 4 to 5 MOs attended to him in addition to many senior warrant medics, all giving CPR and administering drugs to revive him.

in addition it was found that his spinal cord (neck down) was severely damaged for some unknown reason.

the reason why it took 20 minutes before sending him to the hospital is because the medics determined that it was too risky as his heart wasn't beating, so CPR had to be done immediately. Defibrillators weren't used because his pulse was completely zero all the way.

the unofficial reason why they sent him to the hospital was just to pronounce the poor guy dead.

i don't doubt the medics who worked hard to revive him. in fact, the medics were the busiest people during AHM due to the constant flow of patients.

It is just a run it doesn't matter whether you are fast,slow,completed or not,it is just a simple run,to give up a human life for a run!!!!

I think the event organiser already try their best and everything needed to done has implace... Please don't try to question their working ethics. Btw,this is not the first time such things happen. 2 years ago,an Indian sgt also die similarly during his IPPT. There seems to be a trend of such incident happen.

The best is don't push yr men too hard as city life is getting more stressful which weaken our body..

why not u try being a medic? being a non medical trained soldier n given 2 mths of basic training, u cant expect SCDF standard. Non medic do not understand the feeling when u see a patient unconscious or a seriously injured patient in front of u , i have experienced that n its -_-"", i beleive the medics would have done their best but there is a limit to which a medic can do.

n btw do u know if a patient get into trouble, the medic will be the 1st to be invesigated 1st, n if found u didnt follow protocols or make a minor mistake, u r in deep trouble

They shouldnt even organise such a event. Mara, triathlon is a very risky sport. I believe a average person (even if he does train for it) shouldnt even be running competitvely in such a event. For leisure run yes but competitive no.

N u know if SAF organise such a event, many regulars, nsfs are obliged, encoruaged and even forced to join to show face. Many of these are not well trained in such a event. Yes they can clock gold for 2.4km but over 21km is no joke. I beleive there are alot of fainting at finishing point n thats why there is alot of MO n senior medics.

IMO, for such a high risk event, they should ask SCDF to sent some staff to standby not just MO, medics

If you were at the scene, you will testify to the fact that he was attended to in less than 10 seconds.
