GSOC stands for General Staff Operations Centre. It's one of
them command/control entities that come under MINDEF control, I
believe, rather than the SAF's. All the service branches -- Army,
Navy, Air Force, PDF -- have such headquarters at the top of their
hierarchy. As already posted, those working at that level are
called G-3 staff.
Such structural definitions are quite common in many
militaries:
Personnel = G-1 (or S-1 at the BN level)
Intelligence = G-2 (S-2)
Combat Ops = G-3 (S-3)
Logistics = G-4 (S-4)
There's also G-5 & G-6 at the staff-officer level, but no idea
what they do. Beyond reading in the papers about so-&-so
office-holder receiving a National Day Award, that is.
