they have lots of big shots there so of course food is better.

cook hse food r overpriced .. overrated .. n sux to the core .

for 5.5 per meal , saf is overpaying way too much . the quality of it is like bagala food oso nicer . i have eaten mee rubus with orange turning red mees . curry chicken over cooked . n the most outrageous of all is seeing the cookhse personnel da-baoing food n claim to have not enough for indentation . i have personally seen them dabao at 4pm n close super early when the supposed time is 7-730.

nt to mention the menu is nt appetitsing at all

Use more potatoes and pasta. Pasta is actually cheap to prepare. Boil and serve.

Healthier and gives more energy. Last time at SMM, I only went to the cookhouse when it was pasta day.

No I dun think so.

But I think the current cooks might be sick of soldiers complains of this thing not nice, that thing not nice.. Well, you can't please everyone.

Maybe soldier should have some days of individual unit cooks who cooks plain food, not really not nice food (with the canteen closed) to make soldiers relised that sometimes, cookhouse food is better than individual unit cooks' food.

I had one in my training camp in Taiwan in 2005. Wah piang eh. For the first time, I prefer some lousy combat rations, than live rations cooked by reservist unit cooks.

From then on, I learn to appreciate cookhouse food done by SFI, or NTUC Foodfare.

don't think the blame can be put entirely on the cooks.

besides, they're just doing their job, and i doubt they're paid well enough to give a damn about what they cook.

i do agree that SFI foods is unhealthy most of the times but sometimes those 'unhealthy' food tastes not bad......... Laughing

during my NSF days in kranji camp, I have 'experienced' special meals nasi padang, nasi briyani, nasi lemak, western meals, pasta, laksa, prawn mee etc and apart from the laksa and pasta, others are considered acceptable......

and i do agree that apart from western and pasta meals, $S5.50 per meal is damn to ex........

a also wonder how much does SAF paid SFI for night snacks......... Laughing during my days the worst i can get is 2 bread spread with butter n kaya.......

Different camps serve different food, different variety, different standards, different nutrition value, different amount of effort put into cooking etc etc... So you cant blame the entire SAF just becos your camp food sucks...

I had 2 whole years of sucky food before my camp changed the cookhouse vendor... My meals for the last 3-4 months were simply wonderful...

Actually things have been slowly improving... You're considered lucky that you are in army now and not years ago.. I think you're just a spoilt brat or some non-combat soldier who got nothing to do everyday but sit there and think of things to complain...

If you get the camp to select soldiers to become cooks in the cookhouse, i can guarantee you that you get more shitty food... Just ask your dad or your uncles... Few years back, out-ration was packed in styrofoam boxes, which they said tht it's toxic (but i took them for 2 years), now they changed it to cardboard boxes liao... Now, the NS allowance has increased by so much! But service time also reduced by so much! Also, only 5 days week! What the freak! You are already enjoying better NS life, so just try to live with it... NS life will get better slowly and slowly... You can complain, but let me tell you that your experience is definitely not the worse... Just ask the pioneers...

Its the year 2007 not 1967 , people should be more aware of healthy food.

The threadstarter has already mentioned that he does not mind if its BLAND but is NUTRITIOUS.My, do you even read properly before jumping the gun.

Unlike the typical Singaporean who eats what suits his palate, the threadstarter is eating as a means of healthy living.

Thats becos SFI quotes the most competitive prices. SFI produces Farmpride chicken nuggets. Yum Yum! Very Happy

And no, the CEO isnt linked to the Lee family. Its just that Temasek Holdings own 69.9% of SFI. Laughing

IMO, SFI has a very important responsibility of supplying trusted food to the SAF. SAF shldnt allow any other caterers to supply food for security reasons.

Simple, this is the Army. Nutrition should come before taste. There are ways to cook healthy but tasty food.

Steam, blanch, poach etc. Add natural herbs for the flavor.

y r u so fussy? u think saf is wat? hotel ah? who u think u r? if complain so much, dun go cookhouse n eat. jus scan n go n eat ur own healthy food. u think outside food is much better?think again! be grateful tt the food is free n is way better than the food in 1G saf.

True.Nutrition should be first over taste.Bland food helps to toughen you up.And 5 days is a more efficient use of time,speaking as a person who's gone through it.

Of course, they should stick to 5.5 days for high-key training such as during BMT and the initial phases of SISPEC and OCS.There is no need for 5.5 days in a combat unit unless there is a major excercise coming up,or some form of logistics or ops audit.

Another option is to switch entirely to Indian vegetarian or Muslim food.I found it a lot more tasty and healthier than the stuff served at the Chinese food cookhouse.

Muslim food and indian vegetarian food beats Chinese food in the SAF anyday.
