i got a fren who is now in army.

But he works as a waiter on weekends cos he wan to earn more $.

What happen if he get caught? Tried persuading him not to work but he don listen..

one is not allowed to moonlight.

if caught, punishments will depend on the commander.

working part time is alright as long as it doesn’t conflict with your NS duties.

it still stands that moonlighting is not allowed while serving full time national service

but i feel some leeway can be given to those who really have genuine concerns about supporting a family and what not while serving NS.

a soldier cannot fully perform his duties as a soldier if he has dosmestic problems to deal with.

Although the SAF have many welfare schemes on hand, I'm not too sure if this can fully cover what is required.

Its a wonder how some can don't mind working weekends after staying-in for 5 days..I mean its going be very sian, tiring and all..

Goes to show either he has very strong will and hardworking..

Or NS getting very relaxed and no-stress..

Or in the first place he not in stay-in vocation la of course..

but sometimes if u've got parents to support, or a new family to raise you have to push back the sian-ness.

although i agree if u're not in a stay-in vocation, it's really quite like any normal day job.

and although SAF provides food, accomodation, allowance, incentives, free 'gym training' and 'arcade shooting'... it's not everything.

Do anything you want, but don't get caught. If you want to work on weekends, make sure you remember that your duties and any activation cannot be missed.Those come first.

It is legally an offence, but it's every individual's call. Some commanders support their NSFs working, especially those in 8-5 vocations, but they do so "by left".

I've come across cases where it's the family that is suffering. There are really terrible cases that one may not hear about everyday, and not in the news for sure. Single parent families, siblings all drug addicts, parent mentally challenged.. the only breadwinner having to serve NS etc..

He a 3SG now, stay in but sure can book out by fri nite.

Work on wkends can give him more spending power cos he say army pay not enough for him..

i totally agree. why work on weekends just to splurge on such a decadant lifestyle? If you work to support your family it's something. But to buy the latest fred perry tee, for instance? that's something else.

But yes, you choose the way you wanna lead your life.

Yeap, it's his call. If he doesn't skip his weekend duties, if any, and does his work well, there's no need for his superiors to do anything.

Even he work part time, he also got no time to spend the money. Mon to fri in camp, wkends work. If i were him, i might as well rest at home.
