With a diploma, your career as an officer will only bring you so
far. Heck, even with a degree, you are not guaranteed a great
career cos there are so many degree holders around.
And SAF only offers those high ranking scholar types cosy positions
in stats boards. The rest of the officer corp are left to fend for
themselves when they retire. If you are looking for a long term
career in SAF, I think you are better off as a specialist with a
diploma. At least your prospects look brighter what with your
diploma, and a later retirement age.
The only drawback is that as a specialist you have to do sai kang
that officers shun, and obviously you don't get as much respect as
you do with an officer. But well, staff sergeants and warrant
officers are a different pot of kettle altogether.
