Tracked vehicles will not neccessarily damage the road – there are rubber things you can fit to the track to help prevent damage. I think the main issue might be weight.

Not true. Bikes can go up to 70km/h a few years back. I think it depends on the vehicles la.

SAF bend the rule to allow "A" vehicles to travel on highway?

I remember during the 40SAR convoy to TVMA from the old Keat Kong Camp, we are not allow to travel on the long stretch of Lim Chu Kang Road beside the cemetery, instead on the old road where former 2 Guards camp.

Well, tracked vehicles will not do any major damage to the road surface but in the event when they have to negotate a turn, that’s when the tar on the road surface will start to “pop” out due to the differential turn of the tracks.

When I was in the SAF never in my entire time have we used the Expressway(out of bound) no matter what but let me share with you one funny incident where a whole convoy of troops (with live ammunition)on standby made a wrong turn and ended up using the causeway….almost caused an International incident with Malaysia.

Aiya, even if there is to be an accident, chances are the armored vehicles will bear at most a scratch.

This was in 1985,The convoy missed a turn at woodland,s had no choice but to go straight through the SIngapore CK go on the causeway and make an illegal U-Turn just before the Malaysian CK but it was a standby convoy with live ammunition......the rest of the story,no need to know.

Yes it sure did.They also not bluur,you knew what the red flags tied to the end of each vehicle meant.The vehicle commander (a regular)almost got into deep shit,he ROD/ORD a Leftenant the other three young officers.....2 became full Col and one became a G.The Enchik left SAF as a WO2 the Sargeants all warrant officers now.
