Good grades in studies might indicate an 1. Adaptive mind, 2. A
mind quick to absorb new data and assimilate it?
I think that that is one of the reasons officers are chosen because
they have good grades. Not because of the grades itself (which
means nothing much), but that the grades might be an indication of
some
of the qualities an officer needs in a war.
You need a quick mind to react to the rapidly changing tactical
situation correct? You can't wait for one hour to pass-it might be
to late. Flexibility-learn to adapt to what the enemy is doing (I
think you know what I mean. I just can't seem to put it in
English)
No doubt, grades are not everything, but they might be an
indication that "this person is officer material". You only spend a
short time doing your NS. How fast can you be observed for your
personality traits/etc that will determine whether you are fit to
be an officer?
I think the use of grades by the SAF is understandable. However, I
DO NOT agree when they base EVERYTHING on grades
alone. Eg. ______ (fill in yourself)
