Yes, I have known many good officers (because their contract are more flexible to break) leave the service after 4-5 years.

Some pursure more promising carreer outside. Some of them are just fed up with the beaureacracy they deal with.

One of the OC (CPT) who resign kinda openly told his men he is quite fed up. And during his last months, he simply collected extras like nobodies business. haha.

I could name a platoon's worth of incompetent regulars from all ranks. But for every bad apple, there's a tree full of good ones. So yeah, let's keep things in perspective
and not start a bashing session.

i suggest that u can look at saf manegerial structure as a big "MNC"..with a lot of department heads, managing directors etc..

however.. there are a few major differences..

1. we are not profit orientated but performance oriented.. sad to say, global standards for judging military might doesnt really equates well to what we really think it should be..

2. there are a lot of unwilling employees...

3. no common goals? (minus protecting the nation?)

4. poor management of under-performing people..

5. lastly, the concept of reorganisation is not really correct.

although changes have been made to try to improve the quality of people trained, change their ideas, influencing them etc. there are too many things on-going and too confusing to know what they really want. also most of the higher command dun really care about it until someone ask, so who cares anyway. people will rather remember essential stuff about their primary job scope than something that dun really concerns them that much?

im just generalising it! dun like to type too long! up to u to decide.. just my 2 cents! cheers~

i dont noe abt others but the airforce seems to be crazy about obtaining some ISOXXX or some other certification. so many aduits, i had 3 in a row before i ord. cant even do our primary job properly keep preparing for audit this n that Mad

SAF is not bad an organisation. I think its people's perception of what it should be that makes the difference.

If you join the SAF and wants to do the same things as your friends in the civilian sector, obviously that cannot be done.

it's a fighting force..

so, why the hell does it need ISO and all that is beyond me..

unfortunately, way too many scholars have weaseled their way into high office in there.. much like many organisations in the gabrament...

they are book-smart but apart from that, most have lost the plot or didn't even know about the plot in the first place...

so, their working lives are filled with getting ISO, getting this award, getting that award, and not actually increasing the effectiveness of their units...

again, i ask.. where the heck does ISO come in for a fighting force?

Because singapore is a business, I mean country obsessed with efficiency. Laughing ISO is about standards which aim to achieve this efficiency. And in the process of doing so, only numbers and figures come to play. Everything else can be compromised. I don't care how many people have to suffer, I just want this done!!!

There is no problem with anyone. 'Tekan' has been in the SAF for years already. Its nothing new. Been here all along, from the 'Hokkien peng' days to the current 3G soldiers. When we reach 6G with all graduate recruits, 'tekan' will still be around.

Lets just say that this is tradition in keeping a discipline force.
