New Fieldpack (part 2)

last SG · 2006-12-11T23:35:09+00:00

The level of resistance to change and anything new (within this forum) sometimes bothers me its not often that I feel compelled to chip in my 2c worth but...

Fatum SG

don't tell me passing SOC is no longer a requirement for passing BMT ...

Xtrider SG

sad to say...no Laughing i got the shock of my life when i went back for recourse (full)
culture shock sia from my first experience..

mr_sotong SG

its not a requirement to pass.. i didnt pass my soc n ippt during bmt leh.. Embarassed

deathscythe99 SG

They really relaxed till such a degree ah Shocked

Anyway I think while the waterbag is good and allows drinking on the go, I was wondering if it would be susceptible to sharpnel (ie when u hide in ur selfscrape from Arty Bombardment, would it get hit by sharpnel and therefore leak?)

whitenoise SG

The requirements to pass are Live 100m range, Live Hand Grenade, Field Camp and 24km route march. That's all.

Keep your eyes peeled today... Recruits should be booking out. I think only the newest recruits have the new equipment, so not all may be using the fieldpack.

Well that's true, but nonetheless it's issued to new recruits... Unless SAF decides to change it back, which isn't an impossibility Mr. Green

Gordonator SG

i'm not talking about money.

i mean isn't it a waste as in waste of equipment if recruits are issued LBVs but are posted to admin vocations or technical vocations? Laughing

LazerLordz SG

Bro, my side during ICT, the S1 Branch clerks have to go outfield too and wear SBO.

saline SG

i nv mention that wearing LBV cannot do SOC. what i was asking is the 1 full water bottle rule. also how to conduct water parade?
is the LBV heavier than the webbing?

tfcheng SG

i was issued the LBV as a men, after my AIT.
for my batch, its pretty sure that LBV is mainly used for POI, u know, to look good. lol.
we used the LBV for ROC and it was rather shag lah. there isnt really any place for u to rest ur weapon and slinging weapon is quite uncomfortable.
weight wise, i find it heavier, more so if u need to fill your waterbag and bring water bottle. because of the more sturdy pouches, u can put more items, thus increasing the weight.

tfcheng SG

CONFIRMED!
tekong recruits are using the new fieldpack! Sad
its similar to the one i've shown but without the top compartment. quality seems lousier tho.

mr_sotong SG

haha.. they gonna suffer like hell.. Laughing

I am personally for the idea of a waterbag. The reason is, the water tube will encourage the troops to drink water more frequently why on the move. The old water pouch is not that accessible for those carrying heavy loads. For those whoare medics, 84mm, will noe that the manpack hinders the ability to tak out the bottle. But one thing abt the waterbag i am worried abt is the durability. The water bag is not that durable in the sense that the water bladder seems to leak water after some heavy sessions of chiong suaing as the heavy load seems to have cause the bladder and the tubing to be significantly weaken.

scabstermooch SG

I predict one problem with waterbags. If not addressed now, it could cause chronic and widespread problems for the SAF.

The problem is that of hygeine. It is difficult to clean a water bag. That is a problem. But a bigger problem would be the drinking tube. I can forsee alot of nasties growing inside the tube and more importantly, where you put your mouth!

Hopefully the fools that make up the CoC have cottoned on to this.

Diehard_89 SG

algae will grow? Question

KoolKool SG

There are some good waterbags that gaurantees non-leakage and anti-microbial in-built, which means no algea will grow.

But the ones now issued does not seem to have these properties. Don't know why ?

Gordonator SG

the new fieldpack is definitely a welcomed replacement to the old one. the fornt opening feature is the best of all. it makes packing/unpacking and looking for items so much easier. Very Happy

damn. i hope i get my LBV and new fieldpack when i get called up for reservist. if not, i guess i'll buy the fieldpack myself at the e-mart with credits. Laughing

scabstermooch SG

I dun think it is just algae. More like fungi and bacteria. I think an uncapped drinking tube will also attract all sorts of little fleas/assorted insects.

Can't be healthy.

Rockhound SG

mine has that anti-microbial in built.....

but i dun really trust the non-leakage guarantee.....u lie back or sit down forcefully and it'll burst...no joke...

Fatum SG

wah ... knee pads also SOE liao ah ? ... Laughing

so when are we getting body armour as SOE ? ... Very Happy
