Guard duty for this coming Chinese New Year festive session

Gordonator SG · 2007-01-29T00:32:29+00:00

during my last year of service, my unit couldn't find enough non-chinese people to do guard duty on the 2nd day of chinese new year since majority of the gua...

Gordonator SG

since this chinese new year festive session falls on Sunday, Monday and Tuesday plus New Year eve on Saturday, I believe most units won't get chinese to do guard duties for these 4 days. which makes me wonder, are there enough non-chinese personels to do guards for this period?

cos when i was in service, my unit was having trouble finding guards to cover for 2 days of chinese new year duties. this year got 4 days to cover, wonder will units face this problem...

mr_sotong SG

i think i'm having a deja vu on this.. Laughing

but anyway, surely there will b some chinese tio extras.. so need not worry abt this..

Hmm... I remember that my brigade HQ's medical center once had a shortage of non-Chinese medics to do medical center duty for CNY.

My brigade senior medic sent a request to my battalion senior medic to spare some of his non-Chinese medics to help cover the duty there.

My senior medic wanted to send me, but I already had SAF ward duty to do. Laughing

In any case, they will try to get non-Chinese personnel to do the duty.

But if they really can't find anyone, then it's just too bad... in the end, someone has to do the duty. Neutral

Ponders SG

How about units which tend to have less non-Chinese?

e.g. Air force bases, Commandos, etc

I kena before, somemore it because the standby guards and those guards all report sick!!! Wah kao, morale of the story is,don't be too close to your CSM,cause he usually call those he know well one Evil or Very Mad
Even though i was given three days off,but the 3 days is hard to compensate the spoiling of my cny mood sia.

My side used to practise a neutral system. Everyone does their duty, be it any ethnic holiday. No preferential system.

I was on standby on CNY eve before.

kentheman SG

my side is at least one chinese to be a guard comd, BOS, DO, orderly or cdso. at least one chinese. so cannot run.. lucky draw coming up

CoolMyth SG

Ditto.

I've done duties on CNY eve and Day 1, and the following year, Day 2 and Day 3. LL lor. (pun not intended) Laughing

Advantage: Camp very empty. So almost nothing to do.
Disadvantage: Canteen not open. Except for Malay food, there ain't much choice. Have to all fork out money, call delivery. Also have to wait cause long queue. Wink

Kuali Baba SG

Ethnic Chinese personnel aren't spared from guard duty over the 4 day period in my unit, even though there's a significant number of guys of other ethnicities.

I don't understand it, really. What implications that could be raised are just nonsense.

LazerLordz SG

Yeap.

wuming78 SG

duty on CNY can be good if you wan to siam the visits and the consequential houndings…

stooki SG

not eat cookhouse food meh?

ah-soh SG

during my NS days, those non-Chinese were told to do 48 hours of orderly duty instead. Laughing

SevenEleven SG

consider this a good consolation if you have to be on duty Laughing anyway the police, busdriver, taxi driver etc..... also have to work on cny. good luck

CoolMyth SG

Cookhouse malay food lah. Duh! Laughing

my friend who's a senior tech with the air force told me once he have to go back for duties on the 2nd day of chinese new year.

Kuali Baba SG

That applies to unmarried regulars, doesn't it? Laughing
