During my time in BMT ( I was in ITD), we were given forms to
fill up. To mark our choice as to where we want to go. The
instructors warned us that it was for show, as no one ever reads it
apparently. This was in the 80s.
On the sheet were infantry, guards, armour, armoured infantry,
arty, engineers etc.
I marked armour infantry, cos I figured that since infantry was
likely to be the case for most recruits ( even if they went to
SISPEC or OCS ) , might as well volunteer for armured infantry...
but then get to ride on vehicles to go into battle !
When my section leader in ITD saw my choice , he went berserk and
started blasting me for trying to think this way
