I like the way Korean Army march, which is different from normal cepat jalan style. And look at their parade, though in SAF men rehearse so much for parade, still kena f'ed by sg maj. Look at Korean's perfect synchronisation in their marching, not a tiniest bit of mistake in their march.

ok we can drop comparison btw regulars and conscipt if we compared South korea/taiwan's troops compared to us.Both S Korea and Taiwan's troopers are all conscript too,but well ours still cannot be compared to them

I am thinking of discipline in another sense. Due to the dropping of discipline lvls in schools, on can predict and guess how this teenagers will behave when they are in the uniformed organisation. I mean parents this days dun even discipline their child when young, allowing them run around in MRT, when their children are punished in sch, they immediately make a big din to MOE or the press. It is because of these over pampering and over protective parents, the teenagers are not ready for the regimental life in army. I ORD for 3yrs liao. During my time, do 60-80 pushup during area cleaning is a norm, proning,pumping,situp at 3 in the afternoon is a norm. But just before the next mono came in........... I got a great shock. The CO gathered the commanders and warned them abt "abuses". Guess wad is considered "abuses", doing more than 20 pumping, "run and touch charlie or etc...." Shocked Very Happy Sad

Can you believe it, he considers this as abuse!!!!

Btw, I am just curious to noe the quality of training of ROC troops. How do they fair generally during ex? Any comments or knowledge on this issue?

KNN you guess how long is the outfields for foreigners, vietnam and others, short outfield to them is 7 days. Their normal outfields are all more than a mth. And those in wars, they fight till the end of their destiny..

i think that humans are quite adaptable, and slack. if can slack, slack. if no choice have to be outfield for a month or two, they will also do it one... less those kengsters who report sick and get ATTN C. coz in the end everyone is a human being mah...

Well, it depends on what you want to see what discipline is.

In my belief, outfield wise, our army tend to have discipline from top down.
our superiors gives us an example of what he expects of his men.

unlike some others, where CO sits under an umbrella watching his unit's exercises.

My friends who have trained with armies in the regions mentioned their field discipline is to a level where men and sergeants can do section movements with cigarettes in their mouth, etc.

if you want to compare us with Chinese armies, you gotta analyse what you see on TV is not what we see.

remember.. Chinese army have a Ceremonial REGIMENT. They exist just for ceremonial purposes.

Whereas our SAF only have a ceremonial "platoon" and this platoon rotates being the ceremonial guards when there are VIPs.

marching has nothing to do with soldiering or combat skills in my opinion ...

take a look at the Israeli army .... if you didn't know it was the Israeli army on parade, you can be forgiven if you think that was a bunch of boys scouts marching past ....

all this spit and polish stuff means fark all on the battlefield ....

Look carefully, when their "sharpshooter" shoot at the targets from left to right.. sometimes the target on the right "explode" before the left! and since when a 7.62 rd hit traning targets can explode one? FAKE! LOL

Their tank shells lagi more power.. hit cloth target flags can EXPLODE!! wowwhoo!! Laughing

Thing is the british army doesn't care much for parades and glossy boots nowadays unless you are in the Guards units or the QCS.

I think this nonsense is more attributable to the US army.

Actually it doesn't matter all that much whether soldiers have seen combat, as long as lessons are learnt from other people's combat experience.

Case in point. Falklands war - 3 para managed to capture mount longden and by all accounts, they performed admirably. Yet none or almost none of those soldiers have been to war before.

Its all about the training.
