Is it possible to go holidays overseas while serving the ns?

mhcampboy SG

Depends on vocation. You are entitled 14 days leave per year anyway.

0lala SG

Ic so means its allowed

I tho they'll be pulling a tight rein

mhcampboy SG

No they dont.

I went for a holiday to adelaide during my first year of service.

0lala SG

but u have to tell them how long ur be gone right?
if u exceed the deadline how?dosent have to be 14days...
like ur u saying u be goen for 5 days but exeeds it,what happen?they deduct or is there mroe comings?

Ristar SG

well, theres this term called AWOL... however, if your flight is grounded and u r affected because of it, i dun think that u'd get into trouble.

mhcampboy SG

If its unforeseen circumstances, you will have to inform your commanders immeadiately!! They will understand it.

But if you try to extend it just so u wan to have fun, then pray they dun find out.

0lala SG

so now i know that NS is not so foolprooof

But after informing, will they deduct urannual leaves?

mhcampboy SG

Of cos they will still deduct it. Wink

0lala SG

I will tell them to be careful

mhcampboy SG

They wont cheat your leave. You can always check with your clerks handling the leaves to check your balance online.

0lala SG

I mean if they nv clsoe one eye i will tell them to watch out

mhcampboy SG

sure you would.. Laughing

baseturn SG

Of course you can go overseas leave for your holiday during NS.
Just go and fill in the leave form.
In the form you must tell them where you are going for holiday.
Before you do so, make sure you check with your commander first and get their approval.

Don't bother hiding that you are going overseas, if you get caught you will be charged with either AWOL or exit permit violation.
It's not worth it, just get permission and take leave.

YI SG

well.. if your leave is not approved due to ops/manning requirement or you got recalled half-way. tough luck.

I went overseas every Christmas during NS too, Sabah in my 1st year, KL during my 2nd Christmas..and Australia two months after that during CNY before getting ready for ORD.

Campy is right, it depends on your vocation and appointment though. And you have really plan your OL to cover contingencies like flight delays and etc..

go Iraq can?

Gordonator SG

i have a Malaysian friend who went back to Malaysia during his ORD leave. just as he was about to come back, he got dengue fever and spent another 2 weeks recovering in Malaysia.

His parents even come to camp to explain the situation to my encik. in the end the unit accepted his overseas MC.

which brings me to a question. like in the case of my friend who fall sick overseas, will SAF accept oversea MC?

mhcampboy SG

Depends on the stance of the unit regarding mc's.

At most they will ask the MO to verify...

LazerLordz SG

If it's a legal MC, they will usually ask your unit MO to endorse it. And if you have people that can witness you were hospitalised overseas, even better.
