SINGAPORE: As part of the Republic's Jubilee celebrations,
President Tony Tan has declared Aug 7 a public holiday, announced
the SG50 Steering Committee in a press release on Saturday (Mar
14).
This will also result in an extended "Jubilee Weekend" from Aug 7
to 10 to "enable all Singaporeans to participate in
commemorating this special milestone in our nation’s history",
according to the release.
Special programmes have also been prepared around the island for
the Jubilee Weekend. This will include programmes at the Marina Bay
area; at the Singapore Botanic Gardens; at West Coast Park, Pasir
Ris Park and Sembawang Park; and at the Singapore Sports Hub. All
museums and heritage galleries will also remain open
“I am pleased that we can have the SG50 Public Holiday and a
Jubilee Weekend filled with meaningful and inspiring activities,
for Singaporeans to come together and celebrate as one," said
Chairman of SG50 Steering Committee Heng Swee Keat. "I hope
everyone will take part in the activities and events organised
around the island, and spend this special time together with your
loved ones."
